Seeking a Workout Partner

I live in Downtown San Diego and I am looking for a workout partner. I have a pretty flexible schedule, a 24-hour fitness membership. I am willing to walk, take classes, go to the gym, yoga, whatever. I just need a little motivation getting going and I know that when I had a workout partner in the past, it held me accountable to getting it done. I am also flexible if you can only go once a week, I have no problem with meeting different people on different days. It has been 18 months since I had my little girl, only 3 weeks since I stopped breast feeding and I am really ready to get moving, but I am really out of shape right now.

What can I do next?

Hi N.,

I'm in Southpark (above downtown) and think you have a great idea. I am just about to have our 2nd child, so don't think I could commit right now and eventually will be working again, so I'm not sure what my schedule will be. But I have a neighbor who used the Strollerides and now does 1/2 marathons, so it seems like a wonderful opportunity. When I looked into it 4 years ago, I thought it was a bit pricey, but for great support, probably worth it. Good luck to you and maybe we'll connect up in the future.

Hi N.,

Being in Downtown San Diego, I have a good suggestion for you. I do not know if you have ever heard of Stroller Strides. It is a mommy fitness class with about 14 different locations in San Diego and the one I attend is right there in your neck of the woods. I have lost 25lbs doing this class, met and made some really great new friends and my daughter Jaylin has a blast not only in class watching mommy get fit but loves the playgroup the follows exercise time. The class is designed for any fitness level it is really up to you how hard you challenge yourself. I go MWF at 9:30 am there is also TTH at 9:00 same location different instructor. The location is in Balboa park just adjacent to the Puppet Theater on the grass area. That is were we start and finish. The MWF class instructor is Anne and she is not only a good friend of mine but she is an awesome instructor. We also have Mom's night out once a month, and lots of other activities too. I cannot speak highly enough about this group and all the perks that have come along with joining. I hope you come and give it a try. I'm Jen, if you do try the class come talk to me so we can meet.

Hi N.,
I'm in the Hillcrest area and I've been trying to be more active with my 10-month old, Hannah. If you're interested in getting together to stroll our little ones, let me know. I think the motivation of having a workout buddy would really help me get moving!

A little about me: I'm 30yo. Been married for almost five years. I'm a SAHM but also go to school for my MLIS.

Dear N.,

I am in downtown every couple weeks on Tuesday. I used to live there when I was single 6 years. I have a 6 year old who is about to finish kindergarten. I have no money for paid workouts but I will walk with you maybe on the Bay, Horton Plaza, Balboa park is good too.

Let me know.

About myself, I am 38 years old have never been called skinny, but have been told by a EMT that I have the BP and the Pulse of a marathon runner (just not the pace). My husband and I have been married almost 7 years now.

Sincerely,

M.

I hear you, N.! I have an 18-month old son and havent been able to quite work out my time during my work day to fit in a workout. I even cancelled my gym membership out of frustration (much to my hubby's shock and annoyance!). I am trying to squeeze in morning walks with my son in the jogger but am not very regular. I wish I stayed closer to you so we could hook up regularly - I stay in Scripps Ranch - so anyone in SR looking for working out - ping me! Anyway, I tried out babybootcamp (babybootcamp.com) at Mission Valley and it was a lot of fun. The have weekdays and weekend classes. You could try that or hopefully someone will respond saying that they are looking for a workout partner too!

I was going to mention Stroller Strides, but looks like a few other people already did! There is a Coronado class on MWF @ 9:00. I've been doing it for almost a year with my little one and I love it. Great workout, gets you outside, gives the day some structure, great group of people. I think your first 3 classes are free, so check out the website. strollerstrides.com
