Pay it off! That is how debt is cleared.

I do not know where you are located but my church is offering an Financial peace class that is done by Dave Ramsey. I am not sure about how to deal with old debt that has been there for a bit as far credit reports and stuff but if you are interested in this class then you can email me at R. _ hobbs at sbcglobal dot net. I can give you info from there.

I echo the advise to check out dave ramsey. his website is
www.daveramsey.com. he will be in dallas at the potters house church in february. it is so worth the $30 each to go. you can also hear him m-f 1:00-4:00 on klif 570 AM. if you have satellite radio he is on xm 165 2-5 i think. listen one day and you will be hooked. his book total money makeover is excellent too. you can probably find one at half price books.
good luck.

Hello M. my name is R. and I am a Certified Credit Counselor, (I am not currently working as one though) First thing first DON"T FILE BANKRUPTCY!!, I want to ask you this what are you planning on using your creidt for in the next few years? (Major PUrchases?) The first thing you want to do is you and your husband sit down and compile a budget that is the hardest part but that is going to serve as a compass to where you are trying to get, from that point. There is so much information I would like to give to you however too much to type, if you would like for me to continue to give you advice onhow to take care of this I would be glad to you can email me at ____@____.com and we can go from there. This can be taken care of without filing Bankruptcy

Check out Dave Ramsey he is a financial guy. He has a website and wonderful advise. He teaches you how to get out of debt and stay out and build wealth. He has changed the way I think about money. I am almost completely debt free thanks to him. I think his website is www.daveramsey.com. Also, you can email them for advise or call him on his radio show and get his advise.

I agree with checking out the Dave Ramsey program. If finances prevent you from attending, some seminars offer scholarships. And DON'T file bankruptcy. You won't be able to get a loan for years, and when you do the interest rate will be sky high.

How old is the debt? Do you have collectors calling you? First you need to find out if they bought the debt from the original creditor, or if they are collecting for the original creditor. I believe in TX there is a time limitation for collections. If it's been awhile, and the debt has been sold to several junk agencies, it's going to stay on your credit now matter what you do unfortunately.
Whatever you do, get EVERYTHING in writing. Junk collectors take your money with no problem, and leave your credit reports scarred for a long time. My husband learned this one the hard way on a $275 debt that was several years old from his college days. Good luck!

Check out Dave Ramsey. You can find his website online and there are classes that are offered most of the time at a local church. He is GREAT about teaching how to get out of debt the best way, he is very educational, and teaches about many things. (Savings, college fund for kids, mortgages, insurance, etc.) HE IS WONDERFUL!

check it out, it will be worth your time!
