Hello! My family is new to the DC area and I am hoping you could provide some help finding an OB/GYN. I am not yet pregnant, but hope to be in the near future. I have a two year old son, so I am looking for a practice that allows children to come along to appointments. I have heard Capital Women's Care is a great practice, but children are absolutely not allowed. Any recommendations would be very appreciated! Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the great advice. I ended up scheduling an appointment with Simmonds and Simmonds to have access to both ob/gyn and midwife options. Thanks again!

I am writing to agree with the other two ladies who have posted. I saw the midwives for care - although you can see the doctors instead. When I saw the midwives they had their own location and their waiting room was filled with toys, a TV with a kids movie constantly playing and lots of books to read with your child. There were always more children than women there! Now that the midwives' practice is inside the doctors' office, I have taken my daughter there without any problem. I loved the care I received from the midwives - all of them - and would recommend them heartily.

It may depend on the practice. I've seen plenty of children (not tons, but enough) at the Silver Spring office. I know they allow them sometimes. Maybe it varies by circumstances. I had no problem with the large office and was pretty well assured that one of the doctors I'd met would be delivering my daughter, which is what happened.

I'd suggest looking @ a midwifery practice. You will find that midwives welcome children @ apts and are more women centered and spend more time with you. There is a midwife practice assoc. with Simmons and Simmons. This is the only midwife practice in Mont. County. If you are willing to go a bit farther for better care, please contact me and I can give you a list of practitioners.

I would avoid CWC. They also have billing issues and the practice is so large you have to see many doctors and the one who delivers you may be a doctor from the other office who you have never even met. Try Dr. Mufarrij he's wonderful...I wish I had the number but you can try to locate him on line. Best wishes!
