Seeking a Handy Person for Wall-Paper Removal and Follow up Work

Hi All,

We have a large room in our basement that would be a perfect winter-time play area. We could probably even fit some small playground equipment in there. BUT - the room came with vinyl hunting wallpaper that I have had ZERO success removing.

So, we need someone trustworthy, reliable, and not too expensive to remove wall-paper, AND texture & paint afterwards. Any recommendations?

We are in the Lakewood/Golden area - near (but not actually in) Denver.

p.s. I should add that I have scored the wall-paper and used wall-paper remover with no luck (haven't tried the steamer or the fabric softener and if I have a moment, I will try those). But the main reason we want to hire someone is that we have 3 kids under the age of 6, with one under 6 months & still nursing. I work and my husband stays home and we are both wiped out by the time the kids are all asleep. THANKS!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Well, we hired someone a friend suggested...and while he & crew did all they said they would do, they made a HUGE mess, didn't do anything to keep the dust down or within the area (or ask to move things near or outsidethe room), and cost a bundle. This wa smy husband's choice because of the friend who made the recommendation. I'd hire this guy to paint - MAYBE - but nothing else.

There is another room we can't get to....and a few of the folks listed here are looking migty good this go 'round. I'm keen on hiring a nice retiree who loves to do handywork and has time on his hands. If I am able to hire someone to do more work, I'll use this list and let you know.

Call, Mark at The Construction Vision, Inc. ###-###-####. He has a full schedule a lot of times but is extremely reliable, honest, insured and does great work. Not sure he will be the cheapest but he is reasonable.

Good luck.

have you tried scoring it then spraying it with fabric softener? Then letting it sit before taking one of those putty spatulas and pealing it up like that?

I know someone who has done this before and would do a great job for a minimal price. He isn't the quickest, but he isn't the slowest either. However, he takes the time to do the job right and he does a wonderful job. His name is Rich ###-###-####. I believe he's pretty close to you too.

Good Luck!

Have you tried using the steam machines? You can rent them for 10 - 15 a day at your local hardware store. Otherwise if the wallpaper is not textured you can paint right over it...

Chris George ###-###-####. He is actually in Golden. He was very professional and my kids missed him when our basement finish was done!
