Seeking a Family Therapist in Hopes of Avoiding Divorce

Hi, I reside in Manhattan Beach and my husband works in Venice. I am looking for a therapist that is close to either location or in between that can help us get through a pretty rough patch. My husband is self employed and not enjoying his work as of late and often takes it out on me. This is a pretty emotionally abusive situation which was modeled in his own upbringing. If anyone has the name of a good divorce attorney - this would also be helpful so I can protect myself should this situation head in that direction.

What can I do next?

There is a wonderful group in Manhattan Beach called Friends of the Family that provide marriage, family and child counseling on a sliding scale. I pay $20 a visit. Their number is ###-###-####, and you'll want to speak to Jeri Bell. She is an amazing therapist.

Even if things don't work out with your husband, I would continue seeing a therapist, as it will really help with getting through everything.

As for a good attorney, I am using Neil Olsen in Torrance. He's very fair and not a bulldog like some other divorce attorneys. He really cares about what's best for the kids. His number is ###-###-####.

I went through something very similar with my ex, so if you ever want to chat, drop me an email anytime!! ____@____.com

J. - first off, I am so sorry you are going through this...with such young children too.

I know of a WONDERFUL and AMAZING therapist, who works with kids as well. His name is Mel Lewin, # ###-###-####. He's in Torrance, which I know might be slightly out of the way...but so worth it. He is truly amazing, and while slightly expensive, much cheaper and healthier than a divorce.

Best of luck to you...

Hi J.:

Sorry to hear about your plight. Although I dont know of a good therapist if you are at some point in the need of a good family/divorce attorney I have a wonderful one for you. He may be a little pricey but well worth what he can do for you and the kids. I believe he consults for free.
His name is:

Richard Early
###-###-####

He is located in Northridge but he is wonderful. I live in LA/Pasadena and I had no problem going to see him at that distance. He is worth every cent.

Hope your marriage works out though and only use the attorney of course as a last resort.

Take care

Hi J.,

There is a phemonenal therapist in Manhattan Beach named R. Kahane. She doesn't just listen or give advice; she provides valuable tools that empower a person to make decisions from a grounded, centered perspective, regardless of the situation that needs to be addressed. She provides counseling to individuals and couples and if the couples decide they are unable to continue the marriage, she also refers to a mediator who will assist with the divorce process. The mediator can save the family a lot of money and he is very helpful during the transition.

I would recommend R. to anyone and, in fact, I have recommended her to several people; she is truly an exceptional therapist.

R.'s phone number is: ###-###-####

Good luck and best wishes, R. F.
