We have a first birthday coming up soon and I am looking for a bakery that make great tasting and great looking cakes. Do you have a recommendation for a bakery? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses. I did contact a few of the recommendations I was given but ultimately purchased our cakes from both Costco & the Dessert Tray. Our guests were very impressed with the cakes purchased from the Dessert Tray. The cakes were very good, looked spectacular, and were affordable for the specific decoration I requested. The Costco sheet cake was super affordable and tasted good, however, many said the Costco cake was too sweet. Thanks again!

My best friend has found a place where the cakes are just the best. The cakes are so moist and have great flavor. They are a little up in price, but well worth it....
Its called His Bakery... hisbakery.com
one in SE Portland and one in Oregon City.

Jennifer,

We love Beaverton Bakery. They make the best cakes and they can be as creative or simple with your design. We get all of our confections from there. (even our wedding cake:-)!!! Yummmy!!! Now I am getting hungry!

Here is there website. They have a location in Lake O. and in Beaverton, plus some smaller satellite bakeries.

Have fun at the one year it was so much fun. Just an FYI we got our son a giant cupcake to smash. It really made for great pictures. He would pick it up and shove it into his face. It was great fun.

I have used Haggen's bakery for several birthday cakes for my two children. They do a great job matching your colors or designs, and of course you can choose from a book with lots of popular characters. The cakes are always delicious and we get lots of compliments. The price is reasonable, too. For my son's first birthday, they did an additional, complimentary small cake (about 5" round) for the birthday boy to dig into. I don't know if they still do that, but it was a wonderful surprise.

Happy Birthday to your little one.

There is a bakery in the shopping center at 82nd drive and 212, across from fred meyer. It is an all sugar-free bakery. For me, i love my sugar, but my best friend is diabetic and she tricked me one day and gave me a piece I thought was with my 'real' sugar! I totally could not tell, and it was soooo delicious! I used them for my son's first and it was really great for the people who couldn't/didn't want to eat sugar, and us sugar-lovers couldn't even tell. I'm sorry but I can't think of the name for the life of me.

I second Beaverton Bakery. Their cakes are so yummy. The frosting is very light and not excessively sugary. The cakes are on the spendy side, but worth every bite.

For a less expensive cake, I'd make your own. I personally think the box cakes taste better than any store bakeries.

I'm not sure how many people you plan on having at the party, but Costco actually does really good cakes, and they won't break the bank. We used one of their sheet cakes to supplement our wedding cake, which we spent hundreds on, and everyone liked the Costco cake better!

Hi, Jennifer--

Not sure where you are located, but A Piece of Cake over in Sellwood does incredibly yummy cakes and they use really fresh ingredients. I remember going there to sample cakes for a wedding and I was blown away. They do sell slices of cakes so you could try out the different kinds before ordering.

Happy Birthday to your little one!
