Yikes!! Being a working mom is hard enough but I know my husband is expecting a big bash for his 40th and I am at a loss as to what to do and where to do it. It isn't going to be a surprise, but he does want a party and I can't think of where I could have one that would hold 50-60 people. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks for the help!!

How about a beach party theme at your neighborhood pool? I had a surprise 50th birthday party for my husband with this theme and it worked out great. We rented to pool for 2 hours with 2 lifeguards, had food, drinks and a cake. We played beach themed music from the 60's, like the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean,... I bought some really inexpensive tiki torches and we set up a badminton net. It was a fun time!

What does he like to do? Perhaps instead of a huge b-day bash why not a night with a few friends at Dave and Busters? Depending on your budget you could get some people tickets to an Indians game (tix are cheap). Look at how much your are going to spend for the hall, food, entertainment etc. and compare it to something smaller but you know he would love.
Good luck

An 80's theme is a lot of fun. Have your guests dress in their 80's attire and play all 80's music. Not sure of your own age, but I remember the big hair, Izod, Jordache and the punk look. If you need an example of the 80's, watch The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, Sixteen Candles, etc., or look at your husband's high school yearbook.

As far as a place to have it, maybe a community center or local church hall (if they allow dancing) might be less expensive than renting a reception hall. Or if you have any relatives with a bigger house or even a big backyard, just ask them if you could have it there!

Hope these suggestions help!

Hi A., i am not sure where you are located- but if you are in Indy, I have recently went to a friends birthday bash at a local restaurant called GEORGES at 71st and Binford in Indy. They have a seperate room, as do many restaurants these days! Catering is part of the options available at this particular place.

Good luck!

Guess it depends on whether or not you want drinking and other entertainment or not.
If none drinking I would check with churches in the area and see if they rent out the halls they use for large gatherings, they are fairly inexpensive and generally allow kitchen use.
If drinking is involved then check with the local Legion, VFW, Moose etc. They also rent out the hall and kitchen areas.
Or if you want to have a cookout type thing talk to your local parks that have the shelter type buildings and see about getting one of them with the cookings pits.
Good luck and try to enjoy!!!

You could go to a park. There's always picnic tables set up. Or did you want to do it inside? If it's indoors, you could rent a hall. The FOP rents out theirs sometimes (down the road from my house) Surround him with things/food that he likes and friends/family that he loves. I would call around to some places, ask if they rent out their establishment for an evening and find get some prices. Good Luck. And an early Happy Birthday to your hubby.

Last summer, my husbands boss (and good friend) was turning 50. His wife put out a message to all the friends that they planned a huge camping trip and the guy thought he was just camping for the weekend with his family - and when he got there found a group of 50 friends to celebrate. Most people just spent the day together but about 20 of us stayed and did the tent camping for the whole weekend. It was a blast. We did canoeing, minature golf, fishing, and go carts!! I pasted the park we went too. There is all different places to stay, but this was the general area. Hope this is possible to do - b/c like I said - we had a blast!!!!
