Searching for Social Networks for Baby and Me

I am new to the area and looking to get involved in some type of social network. We have attended a large church and seem to be lost in the mix. I have seen some advertising for Mom's Day Out, but am not exactly sure what it is? I stay at home with my toddler and we both need some social stimulus. What are some groups or activities you would recommend?

What can I do next?

I do remember feeling so isolated when I was first home with my oldest child. Just know that life does get busier as they get older. They more your kids get involved in, the more moms you get to know, and soon life will be a whirlwind.

A few ideas for you . . . Mother's Day Out is great interaction for your son. Most are reasonably priced. I have met the moms of other kids in the class and set up playdates that way too.

I work out at the YMCA and have gotten to know many of the moms that work out at the same time each day. I find the classes to be very friendly there.

Edmond library has a toddlers playgroup. I think it is still on Tuesday mornings. It is very well done. Sometimes a simple craft, free play time, a few stories, a few songs. Age appropriate expectations (not expected to sit perfectly still for story time, etc..) Very popular and FREE.

The Oklahoma City zoo is wonderful. Family passes are cheap. You'll definately want to spend some time there this spring. Also Edmond has very nice playgrounds scattered around the city, great locations for a picnic.

Does your church offer small groups? There might be a small group for "young families" or "new members" that would help you meet some people. Also when the weather warms up and you can get outside with the stroller you might be able to meet some moms in your neighborhood. Most Edmond neighborhoods are packed with kids! Good Luck!

I moved here 3 years ago and joined the Edmond MOMS club. They meet the first Friday of each month at Santa Fe Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. There are 60-80 moms involved and there are playgroups you can join, tons of weekly activities to pick and choose from, plus just a great group of friendly moms. Google it maybe to find more info. Dues are only $23 a year! I know there is a website, and MOMS club is an international organzation.

I'm not sure which large church you've attended, but in our smaller church, "Mother's Day Out" is a 9:00-2:30 time (offered 3 times a week, you can choose one day, a couple hours or all the time) which they take your child for a play time, nap time, interaction with other children of approximately the same age, etc. Which means you get to go shopping, have a quiet time at home or whatever you'd like to do. There is a fee,to help pay the 'teachers'. Since I'm a grandma, I'm not involved anymore, but I do know the director and know that the women who take care of the children are caring and interested in being more than just baby-sitters. They even have an Easter Egg Hunt for them every year on Palm Sunday afternoon. Hope this helps. ...Grandma B.

I just joined this group and I'm a new mom so I don't know about all of the activities around town but I would like to invite you to our church if you are not set on the one you are attending. It is a very small start up church. There are about ten to twenty families, most of which are young families with young children. If you are at all interested please visit our website at http://www.fellowshipofedmond.com/templates/System/defaul...

This will give you some information about our church and when and where we meet. Good luck!
