Searching for Organic Produce

Hi All! I have a 7 month old (as of today!), and I am searching for a good place to find organic produce. We recently moved to Mount Prospect from the city, and I can't seem to find anywhere that has more than just a tiny corner (if that) that has very little produce to pick from. Any suggestions would greatly help, I'm making my baby's food, so far going well--but it's been limiting not finding a good selection of veggies.

What can I do next?

Hi,
I believe there is a Whole Foods somewhere around Rte.12 in Palatine. I don't know if that's too far from you, but their store is Awesome.

Oh, also try Jessica Seinfeld's new cookbook "Deceptively Delicious". It has great recipes for children.

Hi R.-
During winter it's difficult to find good organic produce and your best bet is Whole Foods, Trader Joe's or the equivalent. You can even use frozen organic veggies, just defrost and puree. During the summer months use the outdoor markets and try joining a CSA (community supported agriculture). You pay for a 1/4, 1/2, or whole share and each month you recieve whatever the local farmers have harvested. It's an easy way to eat well without a lot of effort and it's great to support the small farm community.
Happy Eating!

Hi R. -

Definitely check out Whole Foods in Palatine, it's on Rand Road and Dundee. I have a 2 year old that eats organic also and that's where I do the majority of our grocery shopping at, they have a wonderful produce selection. Have fun..

R. I order from a site called freshpicks.
They deliver organic produce vegs., meat and dairy. Its really great. They deal with local farmers when they can and you can read all about where your food comes from. Its also nice to order and have it delivered.

Instead of expensive options like Whole Foods or Trader Joes, if you live close to it, Stanley's is a great option for organic foods. It's at North and the expressway. Or if you're up near Niles, there's Jerry's Fruit Market on Milwaukee. On the west side, try Caputo's on Harlem just north of Fullerton. Each of these options is way cheaper than Whole Foods and has a reasonable selection of organic produce. Stanley's in particular has a LOT of organic stuff, at a fraction of the cost of WF. Hope this helps!

We use an organic fruit, vegetable, meat and milk delivery service - Timber Creek Farms. We get an assortment of fruits and vegetables and milk every 2 weeks, and meat every 2 months. It's only a little more expensive than buying at the grocery store (and about the same price as Whole Foods) and it's delivered to your door!

to tie along with Whole foods, I'd also try fruitful yields. They have several locations- which include Elmhurst, Schaumburg, Darien, ( I know none are that close to you, but it's another option that carries organic porducts....

I also LOVE Timber Creek Farms.
They pick out what's best in season, or you can choose your own selection. www.tcforganics.net
and you don't have to go to the store! I get a Fruit and Vegetable Box every 2 weeks, (total: $27) and it's just about enough for our family of 3.

Hi R.!
I order produce from www.freshpicks.com
It is an organic produce home delivery company that services the entire Chicago area. Its run by a couple who were having a hard time finding organic produce at a reasonable price in their area - I think they are based in Niles. They are well priced and only charge $5 for each delivery. They come once a week and the order minimum is $35. Everything we have gotten from them is fresh and yummy! They carry local items and unusual seasonal fruits and veggies. They even have organic baby food! I just love them!
Hope this helps!

I usually go to the following:
Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Caputo Brothers. All of them are on Rand Rd. I live in Arlington Heights and we just moved from Mt Prospect so I am pretty familiar with the area. Depending on where you live in Mt Prospect you could also go to the Whole Foods in Glenview which just opened up and is huge off of Palatine/Willow Rd. Good Luck
