Im getting ready to have my second son and am thinking about changing pediatricians.I like my son's doctor but the last times i've taken my son he has seen a different doctor each time(there's 4)my son has eczema and i've asked 3 times for a referral to a dermatologist and they won't cause he's not 2 yet?also one of the doctors told me the derms not going to do anything they're not well shouldn't i be the one to decide that? anyway it seems like they have way to many patients per doctors and we always end up waiting for hours and when the doctor comes in they always seem rushed and i never get to ask all the questions i want.So what im looking for is a pediatricians office or a family doctor that is not so busy but i want to be able to call off hours and have the doctor call me back and maybe same day appts. Also it has to be kid friendly and the staff has to be nice(nothing worse then a bunch of cranky people answering the phones)also if anyone knows a doctor that knows something about eczema that would be wonderful!! Ok so am i asking to much or do these great offices exist? lol Well thanks for reading and any help would be great!

What can I do next?

Hello,
I know how you feel. I had the same issue with my daughter's chronic cough. I switched Dr.'s & the one we have now is amazing. She's thorough, compassionate & I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes in the waiting room. Her name is Mary Beth Cass at Ohio Center for Pediatrics. 5040 Bradenton Ave in Dublin. ###-###-####. She also referred me to an allergy specialist for my daughter who is just 3. Dr. Rupp - Bronstein RUPP Friendman and Basaran - 5877 Cleveland Avenue, Columbus, OH 43231 - phone: ###-###-####
Best of luck to you!

I was going to reply with our pediatrician's name and noticed that someone already referred her! Dr. Mary Beth Cass!! Well, let me just reiterate that she really is wonderful and patient and will take the time that doctor's SHOULD take with their patients. Good luck!

We go to a great office and love our Pediatrician. We have seen the same Dr every time, except once, and loved the other Dr too. The office is kid friendly, the Drs are patient, and they have always had enough time to answer all the questions that I have. The office is called Hand in Hand pediatrics. I have 4 children (just had the 4th 2 weeks ago) and take all the kids there.

Our pediatrician is outstanding, in my opinion. She is great with our daughter and with us. We found her by accident and consider it a blessing as she is VERY knowledgable about allergies and our daughter has them. In addition to being a pediatrician she is also a board certified osteopath and is open to alternative treatments and alternative scheduling of vaccines. I absolutely trust her opinion PLUS she answers her own cell phone off hours.

Her name is Dr. Ali Carine - ###-###-####. Her office is off of 270 and Georgesville on the south west side of town. She had 3 children of her own and one that has lots of allergies.

Good luck with your quest.

I am not sure where you are located, but we love our doc. His name is Derek McClellan and he is with Associated Pediatrics. They have an office in Westerville and one on Morse Rd (near old Northland Mall site). We see him on Morse Rd... he's there on Mondays. There are like 5 other docs in the practice, and we have seen a few of the others, but 99% of the time we specifically request him and that has never had a problem getting in. They have same day, evening (for a fee), and weekend (sick) appointments.

Dr. Mclellan is a father himself and is very laid back. We like that a lot because that is our parenting style. He always gives us as much time as we need.

The other doctors have, for the most part, also been very nice and thorough. Our youngest had to go to Children's for a while and the on-call doc called me several times in the evening and in the following days to make sure everything was going OK.

I wish I could help you with a good ped but I am in about the same boat you are. What I would like to offer is some help with your childs eczema. My oldest who's 10 had a horrible case of it. We waited for months for her to be seen by a very wonderful dermatologisst and she was prescribed creams for her condition. I was not comfortable putting these on her because of the side effects and what not so I began looking for alternatives to treat her. I starting putting 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in her bath water and her skin is like new. We haven't had to use it in every bath now for several months and if she starts to feel an outbreak we just add it for a couple days and it clears up. (You would probably cut the amount down because your son uses less water.) I'm not sure why it works except that it helps level the ph in her skin. All I know for sure is that we watched her suffer for over a year and within a month it was like she never had a problem when we were told by the derm that she would be fighting a lifelong battle with eczema. Good luck finding a doctor.

i don't know where you're located - but if you're in Columbus, i'm pretty happy with my pediatrician's office. Childcare Consultants - they have an office north on Cleveland Ave and an office west by dr's hospital.

We've using the same Ped. for 12 years with our son and now our 17 month old daughter. Small office, rarely is there a wait beyond a few minutes. . Dr. Michael Loar Blazer Parkway in Dublin. ###-###-#### Rene is one of the main nurses and is awesome. I was on hospital bedrest for almost a month before the birth of our preemie daughter. Rene called me at least once a week to check up on me- Our daughter wasn't even born yet! When we ended up back in Children's multiple times, she called to check in then too-even on her days off. I've had to call WAY after hours on multiple occassions, esp. with our daughter and he's been awesome. He's referred us to specialists when needed as well.

BTW, second recommendation for Dr. Rupp from the first post- My parents took my sister and I to him as kids!! And my sister has taken her daughter there recently!

Best wishes!! E.
