Hi J.
Take as little as ONE prenatal yoga class (they offer it at most studios) specifically yoga garden in the haight or other bayarea yoga studios..
They can show you stretching techniques that will not only carry you thru the pregnancy but post-natal as well..
if you can stretch out your legs, it's going to be very helpful.. I used to get sciatic all the time, the stretching that I learned from yoga has been VERY helpful.. especially if you have a job where you sit or stand all day.
best of luck!

Congrats on your baby boy! I'm a massage therapy student specializing in prenatal massage. The simplist way ( and the quickest) to help relieve your pain if home remedys like soaking in a bath or steching havent worked is go get a prenatal massage. Tell the therapist working on you about your sciatic pain and ask them to work your piriformis ( its a muscle usually compress' the sciatic nerve if it gets too tight) after having it worked you should feel great!) If you don't have alot of extra cash for a massage as many people dont these days you can go to The Milan Institute and get one for $25 or less! Just call to find out about specials! good luck!

Hi J.,

I had sciatica along with a few other troubling back issues throughout most of my pregnancy. I went to a chiropractor who specialized in pregnant women and it really worked wonders! She gave me a lot of great pregnant lady streches along with advice on sleeping positions. Also, taking a lot of warm baths with epsom salts helped. Believe it or not, short walks every day helped as well. If you have a chiropractor I would suggest going. The other thing that works wonders is swimming! This is a great time of year for that too. I was in my third trimester during the winter so I didn't take advantage of that too often but when I did swim, all the pain would melt away and then I would have a couple hours of bliss! Good luck and congrats!

In addition to what everyone else has said, don't cross your legs, and try to stretch at least twice to three times a day. That is what I have to do now, otherwise it gets so tight I can hardly move.
