My nerve used to act up. I was first told I pulled a muscle. I could not believe it hurt so much. I went through physical therapy and worked with the girl to find out what worked the best for me. We found that making sure the hamstring was stretched works extremely well. When I let things go and do not get stretches in every day, it does start to act up a bit but then back to stretches and no more problems. I actually have not had a problem for the past several years. One of the things she did do when it was really bad was have me lay on my side. She lifted my leg up, putting pressure on my hip area right above where the pain started. It hurt but felt good at the same time. My husband did this for me once also and it worked. Now I just make sure I stretch every day and try to exercise.

My husband had issues a long time ago and went for acupuncture. Did not have a problem again.

Having this right now. Started on Friday. I went to a chiropractor on Monday. First time ever.. He did ultrasound and electrical stim. I felt better yesterday/ I went again last night...he the stim and an adjustment. Not much better today. He says it will take about a week to stop hurting. I have improvement, so I can deal. After it stops hurting we will try to treat the problem. He explained the problem...but to much to go into now. This has been horrible, horrible, horrible...I have never had such pain. Pain pills, muscle relaxers and ibuprofen did not touch it - and the chiropractor says they won't do much for nerve pain.

I pinched mine a few weeks ago when I jumped up from changing my niece's diaper. OUCH! It was pinched through most of my 2nd pregnancy too. My doctor gave me some IBProfin and muscle relaxer. The muscle relaxer knocked me out though so I only took it once. She also showed me some stretches to do and that helped the most.

One of them was to lay on my back and put a towel under my legs - then pull them to my chest and hold them there. It hurt like h-e-double hockey sticks, but when I let go it felt so much better.

It only hurt for about a week, maybe 2.

The heated seats in my truck were heaven too...so if you have those, go for a drive :).

Find a good Chiroporactor. I had back surgery twice (1995 & 1997) due to ruptured discs that were putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. Surgery was only done in both cases as the problem lasted for longer than 6 months, injections didnt work and MRI's revealed the dics was badly ruptured. In 2000 when I was 9 months pregnant I ruputured yet another disc. This time the injections worked for me and I have had great success with it for the most part. Having said that though every once in awhile it acts up and I go straight to the Chiropractor who always gives me relief. Sometimes it takes a few visits but I always get results. This last time it acted up it was the worst it had been in 12 years and it took 6 trips to the Chiro but he got it under control. Chiropractor care is much different than physcial therapy. Yes, of course there are excercies the PT can give you to do but for me, personally, physical therapy didnt help. I needed the adjustments of a Chiro. There are 4 excercies I do every morning before I even get out of bed to open up the lower back area that were given to me by the surgeon. These are the same excercies the Chiro suggested I do also. Sciatica pain is no fun and can be very very debilitating. Hope you get some relief soon!

My sciatic nerve was inflamed due to piriformis syndrome. Apparently ,I am in the 15% of all human beings where the nerve runs through the piriformis muscle (in the butt) instead of next to it. Anyway, in my case, physical and massage therapy helped tremendously.

Ice and chiropractor! Acupuncture and massage will help too. You don't need a Chiro who does Webster technique, that's the technique used for turning breech babies.

Your sciatic nerve problems get worse when pregnant so especially if you plan of having more kids (and lifting, carrying, and bending for them!) you need to get it under control. Work on proper posture and keeping your pelvis tucked as well.

Medications only cover up the pain, prolonging or worsening the problem that's causing it! And heat makes inflammation worse, so you can use it but follow up and always end with ice. Steroid shots are temporary, make sure you see a chiropractor to heal the problem! Otherwise it's like taking pain meds for a toothache and not going to the dentist. Or adding oil to a car instead of getting an oil change!

went to a chiroprator neurologist. received electro therapy
you could also try just a neurologist. they can prescribe medicines. a chiro can only suggest OTC medicines.

oh man sciatic nerve pain is the worst!! I had it with all 3 of my pregnancies. It was so bad I would end up limping around the house by the end of the day. The bad thing is there isn't much you can do about it. heating pads are good. Massages feel great but don't last long. You can do stretches to help too. But mostly you just have to deal with it until baby comes. Then it will be gone. Hang in there.

I feel your pain...literally! You sound like you're getting the correct treatment. I have found that meloxicam (generic of Mobic) has helped me a lot.

Cortizone injections and steriods. It is inflamation that is causing it. If you can catch the pain before it becomes too painful then I usually do 600mg of Advil liquid gels every 6 hours for atleast a week.

Good luck! That pain can be debilitating!

Heat, ice, chiropractor who specializes in Webster technique, stretch your piriformis muscle, try aleve or ibuprofren, mine flares up all the time, but these things have helped me.

Pain pills...but they don't help 100%. My doctor said it would hurt more in the morning until I am up moving around...getting the blood circulating. He also said try yoga. He said the sciatic nerve is the length of your leg and that it takes 1 month per inch to heal. Only use ice in the beginning...heat after that.

Anti inflammatories and steroids. I know that everyone is saying chiropractor - but if yours is caused by a ruptured or bulging disc DO NOT go to a chiropractor, as the manipulations can make it worse. I hd a ruptured disc and going to the chiropractor made it so much worse that I ended up having to have surgery on it.

To get a little temporary relief, lay on the floor with your butt up against your sofa. 90 degree angle at hip (legs go up the couch front and onto the seat). Another is to put the ankle of the affected side on top of your knee. Lean over, grab your ankle, as you bend forward, pull the ankle toward your hips. Then switch and do the other ankle.
