My daughter's preschool uses Teddy Bear Portraits. They come one day to take the photos and do 3 different poses. Then they come back a week or so later with the 3 different poses printed out and the parents can just buy the ones they want. There is also a free gift for each child (really the parents) that goes along with it -- one year it was a canvas bag with the different poses printed on it; another year was a mouse pad with one of the poses printed.

My husband and I own a photography studio in Glen Ellyn. We are word of mouth only, more of a boutique-type studio. We have never wanted to get into school photos because we like to do more life-style photography. However, a pre-school sounds like it could be a lot of fun and have the potential to do something a little different than your regular school photo. Try contacting LifeTouch. They make visits to your school. My kids have had their photos taken in preschool by them. They take each child's photo and the school receives them in the mail. The company gives the parent a time frame to review the photos and decide if they want them. Should the parents choose to keep them, they pay for them. If they don't want the photos, you send them back. Nothing comes out of your pocket.
