I think you're going to need to use an icepack of some sort no matter what lunchbox you choose. Any insulated lunchbox with an icepack should do.

I have bought brand name insulated lunch bags in dollar stores, and with an ice pack they keep lunch cold. The cheaper the lunch bag the better because they will lose them or spill stuff in them, or leave gross things in them all weekend and you will want to throw them away...

I personally prefer using any lunchbox, and then I use a thermos. That way I can do either cold or hot stuff by just prewarming or precooling the thermos. I use a food thermos for the food, and a flip up straw thermos for the drink.

None work totally without an icepack. It needs to close completely (as in with a zipper as opposed to a drawstring) as well. If it doesn't, even an icepack loses it's cool after a while if it's a particularly warm day. I personally like the kind that are easy to wash, since they get stinky so fast. I also look for one big enough to hold the food in its containers, the drink, AND the ice pack!

We are having good luck with insulated lunchbags that have built-in ice packs, the brand we bought is Zero Degrees. If it works for us in the desert, I would imagine it would work in WI :) I have really liked these because I can either freeze the bags and then pack lunch or just pack lunch and refrigerate the bag overnight. When I get home at 6pm, the contents from that morning are still cool.

This is the one we have, I think we paid $8 or $10:

Insulated lunch bags are sold literally everywhere but if you want the food to stay TRULY cold either use an ice pack or a partially frozen water bottle or juice box.

We use a PackIt freezable lunch bag. It keeps things cold all day.

PackIt is awesome! I have a few because sometime I forget to put in freezer at night, but they do keep cold and are also great for summer - I bring water for my sons sports games and it stays frosty!

Most lunch boxes are insulated. You can also buy a small freezer pack to go inside:)
