I believe i have scalp Psoriasis, my scalp gets inflimated, very itchy, and i have hair loss on the hair lining (behind my ears and on the back part of my neck). I belive i got it when taking anti- inflamitory naproxen and ibuprofen to treat aciatic nerve pain. I dont take it anymore because the aciatic pain went away. However, the outbreaks on my scalp are very anoying. i have tried many shampoos mdications and nothing seems to work. I would appreciate any advice.

As someone else suggested, I recommend Tea-tree oil shampoo also. Arbonne has a great one that I use. www.arbonne.com

It is possible that the lining of the gut has been altered by the 'scripts and with care may be able to restore to prior health. I know it can be a very frustrating condition to heal, however, patience and perserverence does pay off. And there are lots of good recipes available nowdays.

I have Psoriasis. It is an auto-immune disease, so it is important to see a dermatologist and get diagnosed if you think you have it. It might have been triggered by something you were taking, but it would not be caused by it. There are some shampoos out there specifically for scalp psoriasis. The National Psoriasis Foundation is a wonderful resource: www.psoriasis.org. Good luck!

If it is psoriasis it won't go away. My husband deals with psoriasis and this is what we do for his head. Take tea tree oil shampoo and lather it in your head. Then go away from the shower do some morning or evening whenever you take your shower activities and then come back and take your shower, a good half hour or more with it sitting in your hair. Another thing to do is the same thing with a baking soda paste. Finally, a hair dresser my husband went to once said that her daughter and husband have it and once a month she takes plain peroxide and lathers it into their scalp and puts a bag over their head. Then after awhile she rinses it out and the flakes are gone for the month.

I just googled scalp psoriasis herbal.

I also read on MSN the other day that apple cider vinegar can help with dandruff because it kills the yeast causing bacteria. I tried this just because, and washed my whole body with it. yesterday I got a bug bite that I thought would swell up for a week as they always have and it was gone 3 hours after it happened. I would try that first - put some on a washcloth and squeeze it onto a spot on your scalp.

Take care of your insides, too. Get a good probiotic, like Kefir yogurt drinks. That will help restore the bacteria that your body needs in the intestine.

Hi G.:

My mom had a bad bout of psoriasis a couple of years ago. She lost large patches of her thick hair in clumps. The doctors think it was stress triggered. (My mom had just retired and was at home full-time with my well-meaning but extremely high-strung father....)

The product that she found most helpful was Clomax Scalp Solution. However, the brand is very expensive -- the generic, Clobetasol, is somewhat less expensive. Her GP recommended it first, and the other two specialists she saw said it was an excellent product. She also used an oil-based shampoo twice a week (she can't remember the name) to loosen up the accumulated skin cells.

The upside of the psoriasis was that my mom's graying hair grew back in darker ;-)

Good luck!

I had been told by numerous doctors that I must just have dandruff b/c I had horrible itching/flaking and I could pick off plaques of dead skin. I would even scratch at night and scratch until my scalp was bleeding> But they never could see anything, so they assumed it was dandruff. I tried everything over the counter with only a few things giving me slight relief. I finally went to a dermatologist and found out that I have Seborrhea. Since I tried all OTC's already, I got a prescription for an oil to put on my scalp. That also helped slightly, so then I now use a combo of the oil and a topical steroid (can't use the steroid long term! You have to take breaks with it.)

My dermatologist told me I was lucky b/c most people have hair loss with it. Also, it can't be cured, only controlled. It comes and goes.

I have read that skin conditions are commonly related to a food allergy (2 of my 3 kids have eczema and I have been seeing food allergy come up over and over again when researching that condition). I have also been researching natural remedies. I haven't tried any yet, but I was thinking about trying a tea tree oil/aloe vera gel that I found at this website:

Probiotics and a cleanse may help. Also, Aloe for your scalp and Aloe to drink. Aloe is a natural soothing, healing agent. Also, there's another shampoo company that's fabulous which helps with thinning hair. Here are a couple websites to check out: www.yourcrownandglory.com and www.shopherbalife.com/O.

You need probiotics to balance the good bacteria in you gut. It's likely that the meds you were taking created an unbalance in your system...other factors could be a poor diet, antibiotics, etc.

Also, there's a lot on the Internet about using organic, raw apple cider vinger (Braggs) to treat Psoriasis. They say if you drink a couple of tablespoons before bed in a glass of water and also apply it to the affected area -- as a rinse after shampooing, this will remedy the Psoriasis problem. It's worth checking out, don't you think?

I had bad bouts of peeling and itching on my scalp for a long time and tried all the special shampoos without much relief. While pregnant with my last child, I started taking high-grade fish oil, which is supposed to be good for growing babies . . . . my scalp thing completely went away! I've kept on taking it after pregnancy, and I've noticed that if I forget to take it for several days, while on vacation or something, the itching and flaking comes back. Just a thought; I have no scientific reason for that to work, but it sure worked for me and it's a simple fix! Besides, there are other benefits to taking fish oil as well. I use GNC Tiple Strength Fish Oil or Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega. Don't bother with the Wal-Mart stuff, the concentration is sooooo small, plus there's no guarantee about the quality of the fish. Nordic, especially, is very strict about the quality of the fish. You can only buy Nordic online.

Good luck!

HI G.,
Look into your diet for clues. Is there something you eat that causes a more severe reaction on your scalp? Try eliminating those foods & see how they psoriasis reacts to the changes.

I have known of many "curing" all forms of Psoriasis with changes in diet. Also make sure the products you use on your body are for extremely sensitive skin. Arbonne's Abc product line is Awesome for people with ezcema & psoriasis. It heals, protects & conditions your skin. You can get more details at www.naturallylovely.myarbonne.com

My BIL is living with severe psoriasis right now. We are trying to heal him from the inside, out. Hope this helps, take care. G.

My dermatologist told me that on my breaks from steroid ointments to wash with head and shoulders & T-gel. He said alternating between a "blue" shampoo and a tar shampoo each time you wash will help keep your body from building an immunity to either. I also found that when pregnant and taking my prenatal vitamins it cleared up for the most part. Like others have said, check your diet as well. The baking soda paste sounds nasty, but it has helped me in the past as well. I have found that making sure I take a multivitamin and eat a low sugar diet has been wonderful at keeping flare ups under control. Good luck, I know it is no fun to deal with.

I like to get to the root of the problem rather than put a band-aid on it. I would go to a health food store and get probiotics. Also when you are there talk to one of them or they can even direct you to a book to read,
