Salvage Grocery Stores

Has anyone shopped at a salvage grocery store? I'm curious about your experience. Is it worth the drive? I looked online and found these. Are these good? Any others?

Town Talk is a couple of miles from my house, and my extended family has shopped there for many years. It is a great place to shop, but when you go, you must get what you want whenever you find it, as it may be gone by the next time you come. Some items are restaurant/hotel-salvage, many things are overages from banquets, or slightly out of date items, plus dairy, meats, produce, boxed and bagged goods, spices, oils, occasional baked goods, all extremely low-priced. Well worth a visit or two to see what the range of foods and goods are. I go there about once a month to every other month. Sometimes things have continued to be there, and sometimes they are gone. You never know what you'll find, so it's kind of like a scavenger hunt or discovery journey every time. Best wishes.

I don't know about the other three but I can tell you that Town Talk has been in business since I was very little and I'm now nearly 35. We used to shop there all the time and they had fabulous deals. As for the other post about them selling "tainted" chili, that can happen at any reputable grocery store also. Look at the recent peanut butter recalls. The chili that was referred to came spoiled from the manufacturer. The only thing I would suggest is just to make sure everything you buy is within the expiration dates and the packages are still sealed. Good luck!

Town Talk in Ft Worth made national news a few years back for selling tainted chili. I'd steer clear from that one. Just pay attention to labels, dates, etc.

I've been to the Dallas Food Depot on Cockrell Hill Rd., in Oak Cliff. I walked the whole store one day with my 2yr. old grandson, just passing time, and out of curiosity. I was not pleased. Most everything in the store is out of date. Surprisingly enough, even the frozen meat was out of date. We came out empty handed and I swore I'd never return. That's my opinion. Hope it's helpful. Most of my grocery savings comes from bargain shopping(weekly sales ads), and coupon shopping. Wal-mart honors other store's prices, from their ads. GOD'S blessings to you and yours.

sorry i don't have any help for you. i was just wondering what is a salvage grocery store?
