Safety Gates - Olathe,KS

Hello, I need to purchase a gate for the top of the stairs leading to our basement. If possible I would like to purchase a model that I can strap securely to the bannister and not put holes in the wood. The problem I am seeing from the models I've seen on-line is that the straps only go around very thin bannisters, I'd need something that would go around a pole about 24 inches around. Has anyone purchased (and had good luck) with a gate like this?

Thank you,

M.

I got the Summer Infant top of stairs gate for $70 and a kit for $10 that allowed me to fix the gate to the bannister without drilling holes in the wood. It simply was a long piece of wood that attached to the banister with zip ties, and then you drilled into that wood. It worked perfectly in our home and the gate was extremely secure. On many occassions my daughter would shake the gate and it never once came loose. I got everything at Babies R Us, but I've seen the gate and conversion kit at Buy Buy Baby as well.

We have a curved plastic gate that fixes into the wall on one side and we strap it onto our railing on the other with large zip ties. We get the ties at Home Depot and you can zip a few together if you need to.

I found a kit at Target.com that allows you to attach plastic pieces that hold a piece of wood with the latch parts hooked to it that doesn't damage your would. Then I just bought a gate from Toys R Us (that was the only place I could find an adjustable gate wide enough to fit my space). I have loved it.
