Emma is doing alot better with this new Med the doctor put her on we are just waiting now to talk with all the other specialist to see what they say and see how much damage the steroids have done to her body over the past 5 year's. I was wondering if anyone knew of any support groups for allergies,Eczama, low Immune all those issues my husband and I was going to go to one pretty far away one time but we ended up not doing it so I was wondering now if they had any I just want to learn as much as I can about it and also I think it would be wonderful for Emma to hang out with more kids like herself she is only 5 and she feel's so diffrent then other kids she told my husband and myself when she woke up today that she has old lady skin and she tell's us all the time that she wish's her eczama would go away and when she get's big she is going to find away for the Eczama to go away so know one else has to live in pain. She is such a smart and beautiful 5 year old!

What can I do next?

I have a friend whose son has immune deficiency. I know they are part of some support group. I will try and find out the name. He is 11 and has been taking steroids off and on for most of his life. They told her he had asthma for years but finally got diagnosed as immune deficiency. They have been in and out of the hospital so many times that my friend actually keeps a suitcase packed in the closet so she is ready to leave in just a few minutes. When he gets a regular cough or cold it can turn into pneumonia quickly and they are back at the hospital.

I know the support group has helped her a lot. At one point they had a weekend retreat for all the parents and kids. The kids had fun activities the whole time and parents could attend some seminars, classes, meetings etc.

I will get back to you with more info.

S.,
She needs to support her immune system and conventional medicine probably is NOT helping her; just from my experience. I have to recommendations:
1. Our pedi is Dr. Bain----she takes a holistic approach and things like eczema are a BIG deal to her...LOVE HER.
www.healthykidspediatrics.com
Dr.Bain ordered some food testing and my daughter now does not have eczema, ear infections, or continuous viruses. She has changed the course of our medical care.
2. Dr. Chalmers works with Dr. Bain many times to help children (or us adults) with detoxing and rebuilding all our immune system and organ functions....AMAZING!!!
http://chalmerswellness.com

There is another way that will work....just have to be open to it and invest in it since most of what Chalmers does is not covered by insurance, however I spent more in co-pays and labs in the past year than I have with him and the results are SO much more evident!!! GREAT PRACTICE!!!

My heart breaks for your child...she seems so sincerely sweet and smart....I got a bit emotional reading your post....I pray another solution, possibly one of the doctors above, can help take that from her.

Blessings,

Hi, What kind of steroids was she taking? I ask because my son used the inhalant steroid, Pulimicort, once a day for at least 1-1/2 years. The doctor said that there was no substantial side effect, but my husband is afraid that it has affected his growth. He is now 3 years old and has been off the Pulmicort for almost 4 months and is doing fine. I know I did the right thing by adhering to the doctor's recommendation of Pulmicort, especially through cold & flu season ... but my husband was never really on-board with it. He is in the 25% for his height at age 3, and even the doc said that his height has been all over the chart, so she said not to worry ... how could I not? My husband is basically telling me that he thinks that my son is not growing properly because I chose to give him the Pulmicort. My son is healthy and thriving, so I know I did the right thing, but just pray that it does not affect him in a negative way in the long run. Sorry to download, but I was just curious in your situation what steriod you were using.

My son has a simple exzema on his face and my doc recommended a mix of (75%) Eucerin Calming Cream + (25%)Cortizone cream. Its only been a few days it is feeling better. My son had allergy tests in March last year and ended up not being allergic to anything ... weird, our pediatrician was saying every little virus he would catch was 'allergy triggered' and until I finally took my son to an allergy/asthma doctor, we didn't know. We had to have his little sinuses x-rayed and all - what a trip! Come to find out that he had some sort of minimal bacterial infection in his little sinuses - so every time he was exposed to a new cold/virus, he would have an extreme infection - he never had a chance to really get better before another cold/virus would come around (he was in daycare full time then). If you would like a good allergy/asthma doctor - try Purnima Venkatesh in Bedford -- she is worth the drive!

Hi S., I have responded to several people with this same problem. My 2 almost 3yr old grandson has had eczema since he was tiny. After a trip to S. Padre last summer & swimming in the ocean, in 2 days he was comletely clear. So when we cam home we went to WalMart & bought sea salt & we put it in his bath water. It will clear her up. Be sure not to get it in her eyes & if she has an open wound from scratching it will burn for a little bit but it will make it go away. We don't use it now but once every week or so & also he showers most of the time which also helps. We bathed him everyday for about a month to be sure it was going to stay gone. I really hope you try this. We used everything you can imagine as well as ervery type of Medication the doctors perscribed. This helped the most with long term effects.
God Bless & take care.

Hi Sarah,
I have been through the same thing with my daughter who is seven. We have tried sooo many lotions, creams, steroids nothing worked. It really breaks your heart to see them suffer like that. One day daughter said to me why can't I be normal like all the other girls in my class. Kids would ask her what is that all over your feet. It mad her feel so bad.I found out about a doctor that does accupressure on children and it has changed Haley's life the ressults have been amazing! She did about six or seven treatments along with going to a new dermatologist. It's been great. It is the accupressure clinic in Plano Dr. Sherry Zhang. We see Dr. Rodgers in Frisco he has a family practice for dematology. I hope this helps it made all the difference for my daughter. Good Luck

If you have not tried Melaleuca's Renew bath oil and lotion and using their natural products for around the house I would love to discuss them with you. I have eczema and so does my three year old. However, because of the bath oil and lotion it is tons better! The water doesn't hurt our skin when we take a bath or shower! If you haven't tried this send me a note and I will get in touch with you. I would also like to add that using their natural cleaners along with getting some other things out of the house has helped my 8 year old with his asthma. We very rarely have to do a breathing treatment.

Hi, S.! Has Emma been tested for food allergies? It may seem odd, but people have food allergies without even being aware. I heard a health care practitioner talk about a patient who had 37 symptoms relating to food allergies and within one month of a modified diet, the patient only had 2 symptoms remaining. The symptoms can manifest in a variety of ways - depression, ADD/ADHD, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, skin issues, fatigue, etc. The list is almost endless. I'm highly allergic to ice cream, bananas and chicken and don't show any noticable symptoms after I've consumed any of these foods. There are two websites I'd HIGHLy recommend you explore: www.immunolabs.com and www.neurorelief.com. I'm not as familiar with Immuno Labs, but I know that NeuroScience has a $49 test that considers 22 different foods. If you decide you want more tested, you can either add another 88 without an additional serum sample or you can just order all 110 foods at one time. Plus, NeuroScience will provide you with medical professionals in your area who you can contact. It's worth looking into, even if you're skeptical. It really could be the answer. It sounds like looking outside the box may be appropriate at this point. I hope you find the answer!

My now 12yo and 10yo both had oozing eczema covering about 80-90% of their bodies from shortly after birth and persisted until about age 10. I smeared adult strength (a full 1% prescription strength) cortizone cream/ointment on both of them twice a day just to try to bring them a tiny bit of relief. I worried about it at the time, but they were suffering so much. Neither has sustained any growth problems or any other type of problem that I can tell from all those years of use. Their derm said that they couldn't really absorb enough through their skin to really cause any issues. He seems to have been right. Now, they both have really dry skin, but the exzema is fairly limited to certain seasons and body parts, such as hands in the winter time will crack.

The peer thing was very difficult for my husband and I as parents when our kids were the ages of your kids. My kids also had the "old lady hands". It definately was harder for he and I than it was our kids. I will say that that and food allergy issues were part of our decision to homeschool.

As long as they are on target on their growth chart comapared with you and your husband, don't worry.
