Rush (The Man - Not the Band)

She does not want the Catholic Church or taxpayers to pay for birth control. She wants a private insurance company to pay for prescription medication. Medication that, when used for its primary purpose (birth control), is likely to save the insurance company lots of money in the long run.

Second, these pills are used for reasons other than just birth control. The example given by the young woman was to prevent ovarian cysts. Sometimes these cysts can lead to infertility. Honestly, it seems that the Catholic Church wants to do everything in its power to make more little Catholic babies, so having the private insurance company provide a medication that could preserve a woman's fertility and allow her to push out Catholic babies in the future seems to be a net gain for the Catholic Church.

Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat, lying, intellectually-deprived, idiot dopehead. Was that uncivil enough?

ETA: And I wouldn't be so appalled at this whole event if the Republican Party didn't kowtow to his every word, incorporate his rants as part of their Party Platform, and generally be too cowardly to stand up to the man when he says something particularly vile.

I like and loathe Rush. AND I hate the double standard that applies to conservative talk show hosts versus liberal talk show hosts. Rush can't say that (sl*t) but liberal talk show hosts can and have and the media (almost all liberal) don't take the others to task.

Chris Rock hasn't had a comedy routine that I can ever remember hearing where he didn't call some black a nigg-r and no one complains. But Dr Laura mentions it as part of a legitmate answer to a caller and she is forced off the radio.

ETA: I heard the n*gger comment Dr Laura made in the context it was used. Yes(!!!) it was a legitimate use of the word and was part of a legitimate responce to a callers' statement/question. The caller dug her own grave and was complaining because her redneck husband's redneck friends were throwing the dirt back on to her and into the grave. The caller was her own worst enemy.

Hypocracy reigns supreme amongst liberals. There hasn't been a fair, unbiased reporting since before my grandfather was born.

You know every time I think he's said the most stupid thing I've heard he tops it. I don't listen to his program so I only get the bits and pieces that make the regular news but man oh man what a wind bag jerk. I'm so glad that his sponsors are running for the hills.

And I don't get where having birth control covered under insurance just like any other rx medication means that woman was wanting to get paid to have sex. Birth control is used for many other thing; not just to prevent pregnancy. Using Rush's thinking I guess I'm getting paid to have allergies, asthma, and arthritis.

I really am finding this entertaining. He called her for what she was. And the Left can call anyone whatever they want and no one says anything. Double standard anyone?

Oh - and Obama called Sandra Fluke to talk about this issue, where was he for all of the people who were killed in the tornados? Sick.

ETA: Maybe that was the wrong choice of words - but it is not MY responsiblity, or any other tax payers, to pay for anyone's contracpetion. Why is there this sense of entitlement in America now? I find it beyond disturbing that the left thinks anything the right says is wrong, and Obama leads the crowd there, but they can say worse things and have no recourse for it.

I think he's a pompous air bag. When I need humor sometimes, I will listen to him. But I don't follow him. He used words. A poor choice of words. He didn't slander her. But the liberal left wants you think he slandered her.

I just love that the liberal left has a lynch mob after him and want him dead, punished, etc. but they are fine with:

* Ed Schultz calls Laura Ingram a slut - has his spin doctors write an apology and it's all okay from their side.
* Bill Maher calls Sarah Palin a C*NT - and it was okay for the liberal left.
* Christopher Titus calls for the assassination of Sarah Palin should she be elected VP - the liberal left applauds him.
* Maxine Waters - Representative/D - CA - calls Boehner and Cantor demons and their faces should not seen in "their hall on their screens" but the liberal left applauds her.

But then again the liberal left has a short memory when it comes to their flaws, don't they? They elected a plagiarist as VP!!

And they elected a man who believes that America has 57 states!!

The liberal left kept voting Barney Frank back in office even after he admitted to having paid Stephen L. Gobie, a male prostitute, for sex and subsequently hiring Gobie as his personal assistant.

While I've met Bill Clinton personally - as a politician - he was impeached for lying about his affair with Monica Lewinsky....

But all of this is OKAY - because the "LEFT" did it. When the Right does it - heads must roll!!

I absolutely HATE double standards. Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a dumb twat and nobody seemed to care. What's the difference? (And I don't care that she's a public figure. The left trotted out Ms. Fluke -- basically set her up -- so she knew what she was doing.)

@Juliette..... Maher would have to be funny to be a comedian. He isn't. (Is it really funny to call a politician a dumb twat and a c*nt?)

H. -- I had already pointed out Palin was a public figure when you called me out. And yes Mahr did call her a twat and a cunt -- and all women should be appalled because he, too, is a sexist pig.

Ms. Fluke is hardly a young, poor college student. She is a known liberal political activist and she was sent to testify for a reason. She isn't the sympathetic character the media would have you believe.

Added: Oh, and he may be a 'shock jock' but it is interesting to watch the GOP apologize/back down to the almighty one. And on a regular basis!

And there's a difference between a single piggish insult (Maher) vs. a 3 day, 9 hour sustained verbal haranguing/bullying (Limbaugh). Both are wrong, but it was the sustained attack over 3 days that was absolutely over the top.

I'm more of a Chris Plante listener for sure.

I don't care about what Rush said about that "lady". For one, I don't agree with her at ALL, and two, there are SOOO many commentators on the other side that say completely awful things and don't even get a slap on the wrist.

Eh, the only thing that bothers me is that you don't need to call her a sl*t to get your point across. She says it all herself, but to disagree and name-call, it greatly reduces your validity on the subject, but who cares... I don't.

Whatever. Freedom of speech, and it doesn't bother me.

Since it is being mentioned by a few, yes- Rush the band rules:)

Don't apologize "InMy30's" ... we are all allowed our opinions. I like him too. I haven't listened to him this week yet, so I'm not sure what you are referring to (I don't have tv either. I'm a little out of the loop with what's going on in the USA), But I think that he too is allowed to say what he wants. Isn't freedom of speech one of our liberties still ??

I asked a question a while back about "A Boy Named Rush" and asked what people would think if they met a boy named Rush: band, Limbaugh, 'hurry up' ...... Not a lot liked Rush the man. I like him a lot though.

I haven't listened to him in a long time but when I did, I did agree with a lot of what he had to say. Now there were times when I thought he could have been more tactful about it but there were also times that he was reacting to others who weren't being very tactful. I can't really speak of him currently since I haven't listened to him lately but he's human and has made a mistake of which he has apologized for. If it was someone else, would he be getting bashed as much as the media is doing to him now? I don't think so. I agree with what JO had to say but I wanted to mention as if we didn't already know, that while all types of birth control (including abortion as a bc - which I abhor) is free, is it really? Don't you think that you and me will be paying for it all somewhere. How is it fair to me who doesn't support abortion (unless for extreme situations) have to pay for it? Just sayin' but that is not what this post is supposed to be about. But I guess I'm a radical too seeing how I see things in this way. Oh well.

@ Bobbi -- Bill Maher is a comedian. People (for some reason) take Limbaugh seriously.

I think Rush is a sorry excuse for a human being, and I hope this is the end of him.

Bobbi -- "Funny" is a matter of opinion. I think Maher is (mostly) hillarious. Yes, sometimes he does say outrageous things, and maybe even crosses the line. But he would never attack someone like Sandra Fluke. Sarah Palin was running for president and really put herself out there in the public eye. (Plus, Palin IS kind of an idiot ... IMHO.)

@Mom2KCK -- WHAT?!?! Are you serious? "Called her what she was"??? You agree that Fluke is a slut and a prostitute?

I am upset that he stooped to the level of all the idiots like Bill Maher, Jon Stewart etc. No one has a right to criticize him for what he said UNLESS you are going to criticize the others for their vulgar words to ANY woman, even Sarah Palin.

I love Rush and don't get to listen to him nearly as much as I'd like.

ETA: Fluke is not just a citizen she is an activist, she had an agenda along with the Democratic machine, and accomplished exactly what she wanted to accomplish.

I listen to Rush occasionally. I don't agree with everything he says. I was glad that he apologized for his comments. Yes, I realize he was pressured to do it. The ridiculous thing is that HE was pressured to apologize when so many others receive praise (or worse, complete silence) when they make disgusting comments about certain women.

Every time he does something stupid, yet again, I roll my eyes.
My husband reminds me that he's in the entertainment business, he's an entertainer.
My answer is Eddie Murphy is an entertainer. Hulk Hogan is an entertainer. James Taylor is an entertainer. People look at Rush differently.

I disagree with a lot, of what he says, or mostly how he says it. However, I have also seen a lot of media and bloggers take some of his meanings out of context for good rants and ratings. But he is entitled to his opinion and I think he does make a good point in that tax dollars shouldn't be going towards contraceptives, but that isn't even the point, the point is that it's for insurance coverage and it's ludicrous to think that insurance shouldn't cover birth control. But I think she wanted a church to pay for birth control, and I agree they shouldn't be forced too. But really, everytime I try and research what happened, every account is different or biased. So, really, the whole thing is just absurd and I'm ashamed to be giving it any of my steam.

To Cheryl O. I have to say it looks like it's not just the liberal left that have a short memory...Mr. Maher got quite a bit of heat about calling Sarah Palin a twat. So no, it certainly was not ok, and it was not only conservative right people that were against him on that. And, it's also Mr. Maher who is now defending Rush Limbaugh about his comments to Sandra Fluke. And there have been people on the conservative right that called Obama a terrorist. And how much time and money was wasted in trying to prove that Obama was not born in the US? It's not JUST the liberal left who slings the mud and it's not ok when they do. BOTH sides do it and it's wrong. And the conservative Right voted in an alcoholic. The problem isn't the liberal left, it's politics in general. And it's people who believe everything they hear in the media and don't bother to look at things for themselves. It's fear mongering and mud slinging and just plain LIES on both sides. And it's generalizations that everybody on the left or everyone on the right believes exactly the same things and that everyone on the opposite side is wrong. It's not so black and white. There is a large spectrum in between there and a lot of overlapping beliefs/views. I am liberal, but I certainly don't condone any of those things you mentioned about liberal-minded people, and I don't appreciate being lumped into that generalization like everything that's ever gone wrong in politics is because of people like me and if we'd just turn everything over to the conservative people, it would be great. There is no PERFECT system, no perfect candidate and both sides have contributed PLENTY to the problems we face.

He's not funny. He's not smart. He's a hypocrite and a misogynist. What's to like? If he had called me a slut, I would have laughed and not even wanted an apology, as I would know it would be an insincere one. I have listened to his show and it's like listening to a bad episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, full of cringe-worthy moments that are only funny in the way something is if you are embarrassed for someone else. He doesn't understand satire nor can he wrap his small brain around logic or empathy.

And if you like or sympathize with him, I think less of you. That's pretty much where I stand on the subject of the Master of the Dittoheads. This is the best the Right can come up with? Pathetic.

I was always under the impression that he had a lot of followers and I could never figure out why. I found the article below interesting about how his figure of 15-20 million listeners is fabricated.

Dislike Rush (and many others of the talk show host population)

He not only made a personal attack, but the implication behind what he said is that any woman using birth control that is paid for by insurance is the same. He and many talk show hosts like him (on both sides) are irresponsible in their divisive speech and fear mongering. Doesn't matter which side of the fence you are on....a little more civility and reasoned discussion would do us all some good.

I really don't understand how reasonable people listen to these folks (conservative or liberal...both sides have them).

Do not like him one tiny bit. I watched him a long time ago and thought "okay, his opinion". But he seems to think his opinion is right and everyone else is so wrong they are stupid. Honestly, I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and can think it is correct. But no one has the right to say that everyone else is wrong. it is an OPINION. I think this whole bc think has gotten out of control. I thought the original issue was that insurance should covere, not that it is not available to everyone and that it makes everyone promiscuous. Totally wrong in what he said. And I honestly would not accept his apology if it was me.

I think he is probably incredibly intelligent about politics and has a lot of real insight into policy/politics and economics---but I am not a fan of his persona/personality. I am sure that he gins up his aggression and vitriol for ratings, much like some of the other political talking heads, but I don't listen to them either because generally speaking, I don't like listening to people talk like that.
Do I hate him? no.
Do I love him? no.
Agree? A lot of the time, but not always and not to the extent he carries things to make his points.
Disagree? Sometimes, as with everyone, but often I disagree more with the tone of his speech rather than the underlying content.

I'm so surprised that people think that since someone else called someone else a bad name that it's ok for Rush to have called her a bad name. I hope that's not what we are teaching our children.

I think that if his apology was sincere, he would do it on air, not just on the website.

I'm more along the lines in the "ok, seriously?" crowd. But I also think that part of the entertainment side of his personality is getting a rise out of people, pushing their buttons..since I don't play along, I neither love him nor hate him. I am not surprised, however, to see so many of this sponsors pulling out from under him. And my cat gives me better apologies when she scratches the bottom step of the staircase and gets yelled at. :)

Anyone knows that any non-leftist talk show host cannot call names like this and get away with it. Rush knew or should have known that he would get called on this point.

Personally, I have no use for him. He is usually all show and no dough.

That aside, however, as tactless as his comment was, he also was hitting against the truth on this one. The really scandalous element of this incident was not Rush's unfortunate use of the "s" word as much society's tacit acceptance of Sandra Fluke's apparent desire to engage in promiscuous behavior with society paying for its consequences as normal and acceptable.

For the media and its brainwashed minions, Rush's behavior in calling attention to promiscuity as bad was the real sin. They cannot abide anyone stating that their collective desire to engage in morally wrong behavior is morally wrong. Then they would have to change, and they don't want to do that.

This incident illustrates the total bankruptcy of our modern moral culture.
