Runny Nose - Liberal,KS

Ok, so here's what's going on. I grew up with like, the WORST allergies ever and I'm not sure what my 10 month old daughters runny nose is caused from but I'm worried she may have allergies like I did. If so, she'll most likely end up having to get shots but I really don't want that. I hated going through it and it was just as bad, if not worse, for my mother who had to make me knowing it was what was best. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows of anything that I can do to help unplug her nose and get it to stop running so much. She hates having her nose wiped and I feel so bad having to do it so often. ANY advice would be awesome!!! Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I decided to try saline and a humidifier and so far it seems to be working. If it seems to start running frequently again then I'll probably try zyrtec. I have used benadryl before but she ended up in the hospital due to an allergy to it. Thanks to everyone for their advice! You helped sooooo much!

I don't know about what's okay for your baby, but I take Zyrtec and Nasonex and that combo has worked wonders for me.

Using Saline & a humidifer helps my son (and me as well). He can't take OTC allergy meds because they cause urine retintion, so I have a Rx for Nasonex and it is WONDERFUL!!! It works so incredibly well!!! If the OTCs don't fix it, you might try that as well!

Have you thought about using children's Zyrtec or Benadryl? I use saline water and a bulb syringe on my 5 month old daughter. Have you considered food allergies or checked to see if she's teething? I know it's frustrating trying to figure out what your daughters trigger is! My son has Asthma...so I know what you mean about the runny nose thing!

I hope I helped!

Hello K.,

once you have your baby tested for allergies, keep her away from allergens. one of the biggest culprits is milk. keep in mind that anyone allergic to ragweeds shouldn't eat sunflower seeds, oil, etc. also safflower is a ragweed. so are dandelions, daysies, etc. oh, yes, lettuce is a ragweed. once you know what she's allergic to, you can control her environment better. by eliminating milk from my son's diet he needs 75% less medication. that's a big difference! Good luck and get to the bottom of it. ~C.~
