Running Shoes

Today I started running again. I missed it and it has been YEARS since I've been able to run. HOPEFULLY the new treadmills we have will allow me to keep running. I have a messed up shoulder, lower back and knee but they felt fine today so I want to continue running.

What shoe do you like and why? (TRYING to keep the price down IF possible.)

Not aware of any running stores anywhere near me. :(

What can I do next?

I really love my Adidas Microbounce. They were about $100 when I bought them April 1st, maybe they are going on sale now?

What kind of shoe you like depends on your type of foot and how you run. I would go to Runner's World online (runnersworld.com) and look at their guides on how to select the proper running shoe. A good shoe is really important, especially if you've had injuries in the past, so I wouldn't just get any shoe. It doesn't have to be the most expensive one out there, but it should be the right type for your feet and running needs.

Whatever brand you go with, I think you must find a running shoe store. I'm sure there is one near you being between Chicago and Milwaukee (I grew up in MKE). Spending around $100 is probably the bare minimum. You can't go to a regular department store or shoe store. They sell a lower quality shoe. I began running a couple years ago, and I started with a department store Nike that I had always loved for its comfort. After about 3 days of running, I had knee pain. I had never had any sports injuries until that point. So, I went to a running shoe store, spent $100 on a different Nike, and have never been injured running. It was well worth it!

Asics! I've worn them for years and I've never even wanted to change. If you don't have a running store near you, check out Zappos.com. They have a great return policy if you make a mistake.

Order a half size larger than your usual shoe size. They're pricier than some other brands, but I think they're worth every penny. (I do not order the really high-priced models.)

Just in case this helps you, I have skinny feet, so I buy the AA width and wear the thick Thorlo socks. That makes walking and jogging very comfortable, and I've never had a blister.

I second the Asics! I just bought a pair yesterday and I cannot wait to run in them. It feels like I am wearing pillows on my feet! I have very narrow feet and a pretty high arch. I am a moderate runner-I am running a 5.7 mile leg of a relay in a marathon this weekend. This will be the furthest I have ever run, but I do run every week.

Asics can be pretty expensive, but they are worth every penny!

Good luck to you!

I love Brooks running shoes! They are very stable and made for women. They're rarely over $100, and you can usually find them for $50-$75 at Sports Authority and DSW. I also love Saucony and they're usually well-priced as well.

I run with Avia's, but your best bet is to go to an actual running store. They'll put you on a treadmill and record how you run, then recommend a good shoe for you.

I love Adidas because it has a wider toe-box. My feet are narrow but I do not like having cramped toes when I run. I usually get the last season style at Marshalls or Sears for like $29. I run a lot and do triathlons and they work for me :) I refuse to pay $70-100 for running shoes that I replace a couple times a year due to mileage! Best wishes!
