Running Group in Denver

I am looking for a running group in North Denver.
I have done a handful of 5/10k runs,a duathalon, as well as a half marathon. I wouldn't call myself a runner, but instead a person who runs :)

I just had 2 kids back to back and I need to get back to running again for my sanity.
I want to run a few races in 2010 and would like to find a group to train with. I have never used a group before and just "train" at a gym on my own, but since having kids I think I need the motivation of a group to get my butt out the door. My latest baby is 3 months old and I have only gone to the gym once.

I have searched online and can only find groups that meet up in Wash Park or down south. While that is ok, I live more up north of Denver and would like to find something up this way... so any suggestions would be great. If I have to join one farther away then so be it, but I thought I would ask around first.

What can I do next?

Just wondering how far north you're talking about. I live in Broomfield and while I'm not a "group" I am someone that is interested in running a lot! Let me know where you're at: ____@____.com. I do also know of someone who consistently trains for marathons and half-marathons and she would be a good source too. J.

If you are a highland mommy, we have a running subgroup that gets out and meets up once in a while. Also, there is a group of runners, I think they are called the westside running group that meet up at 6:00 on Tuesdays to run from Patrick Carrols on 40th and Tennyson for as long as you can go, usually around North Denver.

Hope that helps!
Dee

J., I belong to a women's running group called the Colorado Columbines (www.columbines.org). The goal of this group is to get women of similar paces and places together for running, socializing and networking. Although some of the runs are south, there is a message board which allows you to post a run wherever and whenever you want to meet, to get others to join you. Also, our club provides a roster (of over 100 women) with information about where our members live as well as where they run, and paces. So if the "organized" things are too south for you, maybe you can find a running partner up north that will keep you on track and motivated. The cost for membership is only $25 a year. It's worth a visit to our website to see if our group interests you.

I'm looking to get back into running as soon as I've had my baby in March and am cleared to ramp up by the doc. I'd love to do at least a half-marathon in the fall and maybe a full, depending on how things go. I can't run with you now, but I'd be happy to once I can! I live in northern Arvada.

In the meantime, I recommend running/training with Runner's Edge of the Rockies. I trained for my last marathon with them. They have many many members and split everyone out into pace groups so you run with people at your speed.

Runs are held Saturday mornings all over the metro area, which I liked because of the variety of locations I got to run in. Sometimes that means you're up really early to get there, though. You can pay up front for a full season of training or you can pay per run ($15). The fee covers the course setup (always well marked), fluids/snacks on the course (also well stocked), and coaching support. I found it was well worth it.

If you really wanted to dedicate yourself to training, you could also join Team in Training (TNT). It's a fabulous organization. I've trained for two races with TNT. Good luck and good for you for wanting to get back into running!
