We just recently have been seeing lots of roaches too! My sister gave us a new(used) ice box, and I think they came in that way. I have been spraying raid ant & roach spray around the base boards, and under the fridge every other day, and I think I am weeding them out. I know.....they are discusting!

I use terminix and for ninty dollars every three months you can call them out as many times as you want. They got rid of my spider problem. I call them out every couple of weeks to spray. I hope this helps.

When we moved into our home 1 1/2 years ago it had been vacant for 1 1/2 years. It was sooooooo bad. We had the german roaches in the kitchen, the ones that move into your apliances and are the hardest to get rid of. We also had a major fire ant problem INSIDE the house. We tried everything to get rid of them on our own, with NO luck. We have since hired Preventive Pest control. It took about 6 or so visits to get rid of the germans and the ants but they are under control now and I can actually use the kitchen again!! They use products that are safer than some as well. This was very important to us because we have small kids and extra kids most of the time. I highly recomend them. We signed a year contract paid $50 for the initial visit (plus all the extra visits they do for free in between regularly scheduled services) and $75 every 3 months for them to come spray again. Worth every penny!! Their number local to me (spring/houston) is ###-###-####.
Best of Luck

with a some boric acid behind everything you should be good
don't put the boric acid anywhere visible to your kids

Take care

If they are the BIG roaches mix together some corn meal, water and boric acid powder. This is a over the counter at the pharmacy and is not expensive. The Texas A and M ag.department recommends this and it works.

Mix in equal amounts to a paste and put into empty lids set where you want them, under the sinks ref, stove etc. and just sit back and wait. Good luck.

Hello T.,

We use SelfChem..do it yourself. They may have a retail location in your area. There is one in Austin. After years with little success SelfChem's home spray and lawn spread has worked WONDERS. We put it on the calendar to spray the house every six weeks and treat the yard about every 2 months. Also, if you have any tree limbs touching the house critters can get onto the roof and into the house. So be sure to treat the base of trees.
The folks at SelfChem can give you some additional tips. The product sounds expensive, but is very concentrated so you use less than the stuff you can get a Lowe's or Home Depot.

Best Wishes,
H

a nice good barrier of boric acid will keep the roaches from running inside your house. Also diatomaceous earth in the garden is a great pest deterrent. I am going to venture out and say something: Leave the spiders. Not sure what they are looking like, but if they're not poisonous and not everywhere in the home, leave them to eat the other bugs. There are so many spiders taking up shop because there is that much food for them to eat. They are very beneficial.
With the exception of brown recluse...though those will stay out of your way with a cleaned up home...they like cardboard boxes in the attic and closets and places like that.
The spiders are most likely helping you out WAY more than it seems.
Good luck! I would try the boric acid before paying a lot of money to have poison sprayed or bombed...it's really effective and great to hide in all the corners and inside the walls.

I feel your pain.
I have come to the conclusion that I have to bomb my house every 3 months to keep them at bay. It seems to help and make it managable.
I live next to a culvert - hence the spiders, water bugs and sometimes snakes....
I also have a cat - roaches tend to be attracted to their litter box.....

Thanks for asking this T.! I'm in a similar situation and we've had a pest control company come every 3 months since we've moved in and it is not helping. I have a cat and a dog so having pets doesn't keep any pests away. IN fact I've found it has the opposite effect.

Also a word of caution about boric acid, yes it can be effective but it is extremely toxic to kids and pets. You can't use it anywhere that will come in contact with food, kids or pets. So that always made me nervous. I've used it under the cabinets mixed with sugar and it only helped marginally. We've also used Demon ourselves and that only helped a little. I've read that you need to use 3 chemicals and traps in order to get rid of them. 1 chemical that kills them, 1 that sterilizes them and then the traps as extra security.

The combination of pest control and traps has helped but I don't want to control the problem I want to eliminate it!

So I think I am going to check out ABC Pest, Pool and Lawn since someone recommended them. I think that we just need to find a pest company that will guarantee to get rid of them!

I hope you are able to get rid of yours too!

You need routine pest control by a professional company. I have a contract and they come out 4 times a year and spray inside and out. They use organic products that aren't harmful to children or pets. I only see little house spiders every now and then and maybe a roach once or twice a year. Those are the water roaches that come up through the pipes and usually when I see them, they are already dead. It's inexpensive when you think about what your getting.

use bombs or foggers. Put them inside, but also toss a few Under your house if you can.
you will see more of them at first as they crawl out to die.
then the big thing is, you Can't leave those evening snack dishes till the morning! You might even consider moving to a smaller trash can. I have a little one under the sink that i can take out each night. If you can really take away there food source you have a better chance that they'll stick to your neighbors house.
Speaking of which, if your neighbors are close you might want to look at some Barrier methods along the out side of your house. you can spray these your self cheeply every few months. i bought one at Lowes for like 20 bucks. (i live amung several close rent houses)
also, Never bring boxes in from storage, yard sales or anthing used. always undload them outside, and never store carboard in your home!

I had the same issue. We had an exterminator company from the Heights come spray. They also set sticky traps under furniture and in cabinets.

ABC Pest pool and Lawn Services. I have a friend that had a major problem when she moved from some apartments into her new home and brought the pests with her in her boxes. She called them and it worked! That was about six years ago. No roaches in her home since! Good luck!
