Right Side of Body Sore During Pregnancy

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and currently am very sore on almost the entire right side of my body...starting at about my hip, groin, thigh, sciatic area, all the way down through my calf, ankle, foot and heel, with swelling around the right ankle. I've actually experienced this during all of my pregnancies. I will tell my doctor and acupuncturist, but in the meantime wondered if any of you have experienced this and might have any insight or suggestions. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

This is my second pregnancy (due Friday) and I have had issues with my sciatic nerve for the first time ever. I'm seeing a chiropractor and that helps. He said that my hips/pelvis rotate to accomodate the position of the baby and that puts pressure on my sciatic nerve. I get sharp shooting stabbing pains that start high on the right side of my butt and shoot down my leg - makes my knee go limp for a second. Also, I recently had a sciatic massage and it was A-MAZING. For 30 minutes the massage therpaist rubbed out super hard knots in my butt. Yes, it was slightly awkward but let me tell you, she beat those things out of me and it helped a lot. I would highly recommend a massage THERAPIST - I went to one at my chiros office. I have had several massages before but this was different - really therapy. It helped! Good luck.

With my most recent had a similar problem. Baby favored one side so I ended up with Sciatica. A good pregnancy exercise routine including stretches + massage worked to relieve some of the pain.

Sounds like that may be where the baby is mainly laying or or maybe that's where the placenta is.

have you seen a chiropractor? they could help. i had sciatic pain with my second pregnancy, it was awful!!!!! hang in there!

Hi JC,

The ladies are right. You need a chiropractor. I went through my first pregnancy without one and my second with one and it made a WORLD of difference. As your baby grows your body is growing and moving too. The spine needs to be in proper alignment so that the nervous system can function properly. If it's not, then everything starts going haywire, not just bones and joints.

If you don't know one, go to www.upcspine.com and find one in your area. Interview them as you would a OB or a pediatrician. If they don't understand the immune system and how it relates to the spine, then you're in the wrong office. I bet money you will be feeling better in a week....

God bless and congratulations!
M.
