Reusing Baby Bottles
Hello. I am expecting baby #2 in about 2 months. I have been getting out all the baby gear that has been stored away (my son is 2 1/2). I have tons of Avent baby bottles and nipples. They appear to be in good shape but I'm not sure if I should buy new one's or not. Just wondering what other mom's did for baby #2.

I haven't had little ones in many years...however what I did learn is that you CAN reuse bottles. Just replace the nipples. Hope this helps!

I reused the same bottles when I had my daughter..Its really not a big deal. I bought all new nipples because my son chewed most of them up. Afterward I sold my bottles on Ebay and got $30 for them. So people reuse all the time. Hope this helped you:))

I say run them through the dishwasher or hand wash in the sink an they'll be fine. Check the nipples for signs of being worn like rips, tears or sticky spots and replace them as needed. My kids are 6yrs apart so I didn't have the bottles from my first. But they aren't cheap that is for sure!!
Congrats on your new addition!!

We are Due with #2 in Aug. and are repurchasing bottles due to the whole BPA issue. I do not believe any of the bottles we have were BPA free at the time. If they were we would just by new nipples for them.

We had our first in July 2006 and had Avent bottles back then. But when my son was born this past July (2009), we repurchased all bottles due to BPA. The bottles we bought back then had BPA in them. I suggest buying new bottles...

Check to see if they have bpa in them. If they don't I would reuse the bottles and the nipples if they look fine. I used the same advent nipples for 3 kids. I had alot because of the different flows.

I say sanitize them (either boil them or just run them through the dishwasher if you have one) and use them. I never bought into the whole BPA issue, so that wouldn't bother me.

I just have one child, but all her bottles where hand-me-downs and have worked just fine. We even used the old nipples without a problem. I washed everything in the dishwasher the used a microwave steamer sterilizer to make absolutely sure everything was clean and ready for my sweet one. Hope this help! Congrats on #2

I love Avent. Probably right about the BPA thing. Another brand I like is the Dr. Brown ones. Those things are great for gassy babes. =)

I bought all new nipples when we had my son (21 months after my daughter). I know the the material can deteriorate and I did not want to take a chance.

If your Avent bottles are the honey color, they are BPA free. I started reusing the non-BPA free bottles for my baby, and then went out to buy new bottles because of all the news about how BPA is not safe. I contacted Avent because of this, and they sent me rebate forms to get $5 off new bottles. Congrats on #2!

I think they probably would still be in ok condition, but if you are questioning it try buying new nipples for the bottles.

We reused bottles and nipples with our girls. Oldest got all the new stuff, baby # 2 used the hand me downs. She was just fine with them. Both kids used them for 1 year each.

If they are the old kind of bottles (not BPA free), then I would purchase new ones that are BPA free. You can probably re-use the nipples if they are in good shape.

I would buy new nipples. The bottles should be fine, we actually ended up switching brands to Dr Browns so don't be surprised if you have to try something else.

I reused all the bottles and most of the nipples. When you clean the nipples, make sure that you look for cracks and feel for any stickiness inside the nipples. Both of those indicate age and they need to be replaced.

I planned on using the same bottles for my daughter as I did for my son but my daughter would have nothing to do with them. It was quite a few years ago so I was using Playtex. She only liked the really cheap bottles. She is 7 now and still gives me a lot of grief.I hope your #2 is a little more agreeable.

I would purchase the BPA free bottles. There is lots of information regarding BPA, so it isn't a guessing game. When the bottles are heated up or the clear film is worn it allows the chemical to seep into the milk.
