Relocating to Redmond WA area....need Doctors, Etc.

My husband and I will be relocating to the Redmond WA area in the next couple of months. I am about 8 weeks pregnant, so I need a good OB/GYN (preferably female), a pediatrician for my 2 1/1 year old son, and an ENT for my son. Also, if you have recommendations for where to live (we'll most likely start out renting an apartment/condo), we'd appreciate it. I'm most likely going to have to work part-time, so good daycare recommendations would be great as well. I'm pretty much looking for a new one of everything since we're relocating over 3000 miles away from everything I know... Would love to meet moms in the area as well! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi T.
Happy Mothersday to you!!

I live in Redmond and it is a good town to live in. REDMOND RIDGE is a great neighborhood ( about 6 years old )and the Elementary School ( Rosa Parks ) is wonderful. Great Teachers, great programs etc... There are houses up for sale everywhere; RR also has a Apartment complex, Condo's etc...

I am 30 weeks pregnant and I just think my OBGYN is wonderful. Her name is Lorraine Robertson and she has her office in Kirkland. It takes me about 15-20 min. to get there.
Just in case here is her phone # ###-###-#### You also can check her out via internet www.awomensclinic.com
Dr. Robertson takes Primera Insurance ( if your Husband happens to work for Microsoft ? )

Let's see. Here at Redmond Ridge ( RR ) is a 'The Goddard School' I know the owner ( lives in the same neighborhood as we do ) and it might be something which could work for you Guys for daycare. Sorry, I don't have the phone #.

I guess this is all the info I have for you. I hope you like the RAIN!!!!! I am from California and have been up here for 8 years and I still don't like it :-(
Write me back if you need more help/info

Chris

For a pediatritian... Redmond Pediatrics, Dr Keller is great! I hear she is a wonderful Dr and has three kids herself! A very nice lady. I grew up with her husband and the family is awesome!
http://www.redmondpediatrics.yourmd.com/

For a OBGYN... I highly suggest Center For Womens Health at Evergreen... http://www.womenshealthcare.org/
They are all women and very very good. I would suggest any of the Drs there, they are all awesome!

Evergreen hospital is awesome! I have spent a lot of time there unfortunately when I was a kid plus for the birth of my son (emergency c-section). It is a very large and very nice hospital and has a great maternity unit.

As far as apartments and such... there are a lot of apartments in Redmond but I do think they are all quite expensive, I don't know what your budget is, but Redmond in general is an expensive area. If it is too expensive you may want to also look at the Totem Lake area in Kirkland... it is the area that Evergreen hospital is in and only 10-15 minutes from Redmond.

I hope that helps! Let me know if I can help you any further.

Hope you have a very Happy Mothers Day!
~S.

I moved to Redmond 8 months ago from Seattle to live with my fiance. Although Seattle is only a half hour away without traffic, I really hadn't ventured much in Redmond before my beau drew me in. I live near W. Lake Sammamamish Pkwy NE and have found that in most directions from here you are pretty much going against Microsoft traffic unless it's the end of the workday. This can be huge as the legions of them commuting can really bog down 520. There are apartments in the area, but I don't know their rates.
I recently started working at the Goddard School (preschool) in Redmond Ridge (another person had mentioned this area in their post). From what I have learned in this short time, it seems the neighborhood is very nice/new (less than 10 years?) with a strong sense of community geared especially well for families. Only downside would be if there is substantial traffic. It takes me 20 minutes to drive there going opposite traffic. The school is great! with professional, competent and caring staff. It's also a new facility (4 months, though the school system is established) which makes it fresh and clean.
Feel free to contact me with questions or if you'd like some welcoming company once you've arrived.

J.

Hi T.:

I too am moving in a few months to what we call "The Eastside." Right now we live in Edmonds, WA, which is on the west side of the lake. I don't have any doctor recommendations for you, but I wanted to let you know of a book I wrote and published (I work for my mother-in-law's publishing company) that might help you and your family familiarize yourself with some kid friendly places in Redmond. It's called "Bringing Out Baby, Places to take Babies and Toddlers: Seattle, the Eastside and South Snohomish County, 2nd Edition". We also publish a book called, "Discover Washington with Kids." Both are available on Amazon.com. Feel free to email me when you get here and I'd be happy to show you around the area.

T. and Jennifer,

I too live in Lynnwood, which is not too far from Redmond. I go to Birth and Family Clinic in Edmonds (about 5 minutes away). All the docs there are family practitioners and my whole family has been going there since my now 4 1/2 year old was a few months old. Our doc, Dr. Lockard is awesome!! They are about a block and half away from Stevens Hospital, and the birthing suites are spacious.

I don't know about ENT or daycare though, or housing.

If either of you have more questions please email me at ____@____.com

Hope this helps,
Melissa

I gave birth to 2 of my babies at Evergreen Hospital in Totem Lake (just N of Redmond) and they were the best! I also loved my OB, Dr. Jean Dydell - she is a physician in the Maternity clinic there at the hospital. Best wishes for your pregnancy and delivery!

Pediatric Associates in Bellevue. Awesome doctors, long hours, open on the weekends, multiple clinic locations. I've had our pediatrician for nearly 22 years. My kids love their primary doc, but get along well with all. Support staff is great. You become part of the family. ENT, Bellevue Ear Clinic, in the tower next to Overlake Medical Center. I see them as I have had a tube in my ear for some time. Again, very accessible, no problem getting an appt. If my kids needed an ENT I'm sure that they would have been referred there. My ob-gyn has retired and so I see my primary care physician. Daycare will probably be dependent on where you actually settle. Redmond-Kirkland-Bellevue is a large area. If you don't know where you're working yet, that could be an additional factor. You want to be able to get to your kids quick if a need arises, but as they grow older, you'll want their daycare near their schools. Welcome to our corner of the world!! It's a great place to live, work and grow.

I just wrote an email about pediatricians to a mom's group asking for information; one mom responded as such:
We see Dr. Brubaker at the Redmond office and LOVE her!!! We have seen Dr. Scott a few time their too and have had n problems with her. I have also seen Dr. Chattra. He used to work at Redmond, but now he is at Redmond Ridge If we lived close to Redmond Ridge I would be tempted to switch because I love him as much as Dr. Brubaker. On another note, we do not like Dr. Krebs who is also no at Redmond Ridge. Allie screams every time he walks in the room and he always seems a little off to me. His explanation seemed pretty far fetched and he also has something weird to tell you not related to your child every time you come in.

I go to the Kirkland office to Dr. Schiebel and my friend takes her son to see Dr. Parish. Their Bellevue office is open on the weekends and holidays, which has been great!

For OBGYN, I've delivered both my children at Evergreen Hospital and been very happy there. I've seen two different doctors at the Center for Women's Health on the 5th floor of the hospital. Currently I'm seeing Dr. Anita Ninan, but have received other recomended Doctors from there like Michelle Deloriotte. ###-###-#### 12303 NE 130th Lane, Ste. 500

I can't help you with Day cares really, but if you need me to contact a friend of mine (or send info to my close group), I can do that. My one friend takes her 3 year old son to a preschool, which has day care for her younger son as well.

Anyway, take care and good luck with your move! Let us know is you need any other information; I'm sure you have your hands full and need as much help as you can get!

I don't know a lot about redmond (we live west of redmond in lynnwood) but I do know that Overlake hospital is great for childbirth! I would look also at your new insurance provider list to see which obs deliver there. A friend of mine lives in redmond but she's not on mamasource, if you send me your email I can forward it to her, she's got an older boy and a 3 year old girl. Her neighbor runs a preschool, might also be a daycare. Good luck with the move and welcome to the evergreen state!

I LOVE my OB/GYN, she is at Evergreen Women's Care in Kirkland in the Evergreen Professional Building. Dr. Dawn Russell. We have finished having kids and even my husband got a little choked up about not seeing her as much any more. We enjoyed having both our kids with her. We live in Everett, so I don't have any other local dr. recommendations for you. Good luck!

Hi, T.. I do know of a wonderful ENT on the eastside. We've been seeing Dr. Daniel Seeley at Bellevue ENT since my son was 1 (he's 3 1/2 now and has been through 2 ear tube surgeries and a tonsilectomy). Dr. Seeley works at Overlake Hospital which wouldn't be too far from Redmond. We come from Seattle to see him. You can Google Bellevue ENT for all his info. Good luck with your move!!

OBGYN - Dr. Katherine Barret-Avendano (awesome with lots of extra training/specialties) The Women's Clinic Bellevue (5 mins from Redmond)

Pediatrician - Redmond Pediatrics and Associates - Depending on where in Redmond you move, there are 2 locations - one in town and one on "Redomnd Ridge". Lots of great Drs.

I hope your move is smooth and uneventful!
