Relocating to Olathe

We are relocating to the Kansas City area this summer (from Fort Worth). We have made one trip to KC and liked the Olathe area, which is likely where we will buy a home. Can anyone tell me a little bit about living in Olathe? What do you like/dislike? Where are some good places to take the kids for activities? I've heard that the schools are very good--what are your thoughts? Any information you can provide would be much appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you to everyone who responded to my questions! We are closing on a home in Olathe next month and are looking forward to the move!

I would love to help you find a home in the area. If you are in need of a realtor I have some information for individuals who are relocating that I can mail out to you. Let me know if I can be of any help. I have gone through a relo before too and I know that it can be stressful!

Olathe is a wonderful place for families. I grew up in Olathe, and I can't imagine growing up anywhere else. It has grown quite a bit over the years, and continues to do so. Everything you would need you can find in Olathe, shopping, dining, parks, and plenty to keep you and your family entertained. It's not to far away from the Kansas City where there are many more attractions. Most of Olathe consists of middle/upper middle class families, and is quite diverse. The schools are excellent, you'd have no worries there. Olathe has a small town feel, without being small at all. I think you would be making a great decision to move here.

Hi N.! Welcome to Olathe, even if you're not here quite yet. :) I have lived here for 23 of my 27 years, and I love Olathe. I would also recommend Deanna Rose as the others have. And there are many great parks, too. Blackbob Park has a nice pool, with a kiddie pool for little bitty ones. You can get season passes there if you swim a lot. The libraries have story time, but I'm not sure if this goes on during the summer or not. The website is www.olathe.lib.ks.us if you want to check it out.

We love how accessible everything is in Olathe. You never have to drive too far to find what you are looking for.

I'm not sure what I would change about Olathe. I've lived here for so long, and I love my home!!

Hi N.,

I used to live in Overland Prk and now I am in Lenexa, (Olathe neighbors). There is a great free place to take your kids there, it is called Deana Rose's Farm, kids love it and it is free.
The whole area is safe and great to raise kids. They also have a wonderful community pool, you can get the family pass for all season. Sports are popular too, just contact parks and rec and they will let you know everything that they offer.

The rest is almost like any other City. I would say it is safe and family friendly.

From Olathe to Shawnee the schools are amazing and living is great!

Let me know if I can help you with anything else, great choice! And Welcome!

I currently live in Olathe and LOVE IT!!! There is a lot to do. The city puts out a quarterly activity book that has any and everything you can imagine for families to do. Swimming, tae-kwon-do, dance lessons, sign language, everything!
I can get you a book if you would like. The Olathe School District is one of the best in the area. Between Olathe and Blue Valley, you can't go wrong.
Have you figured out where you plan to live yet? I also have info on homes for sale both new and resale. My husband and I are actually selling our home right now.

Let me know what other information you would like.

Hi N.,
I live in Olathe and I have a 7 and a 2 year old. I like it here. It is very easy to get to what you need, there is a Walmart, Target, grocery store, old navy, big lots and any other store you want all with in a 3 block radius. I like to tak my kids to Deana Rose Farm - it's free! They have animals, playgrounds and a little water fall for the kids. The schools are great too.

Hi N.,

I live in Olathe and I too have lived in TX. Olathe is a great place to raise children. AAA School districts. We live in west Olathe in Cedar Creek. There are a lot of new homes going up in this area. Our Elementary School is Cedar Creek Elementary, Prairie Trail Jr. High, and Olathe North West High School.
From this area of Olathe, you would be 20-30 mins from downtown KC... and very close to many shopping and entertainment areas.

Good Luck!

Some parts of Olathe I like, others parts, not so much. Blue Valley is an awesome school district (it is the part of Olathe that I like).

If you need help with finding a house or a loan, my husband is a mortgage broker (Blake-###-###-####).
