Hi Moms!
My family & I are considering relocating to the Charlotte area. Would anyone be able to recommend safe, friendly, family oriented neighborhoods w/ good schools (we're open to public & private). We heard good things about Ballantyne. We're looking for more of a country club community. Any suggestions/advice would be helpful.
Thanks!

We relocated to the Charlotte area in 2000. We have 3 kids. We are actually right outside in Union County. Better schools and lower taxes. We live in Hemby Bridge. There are two golf communities Emerald Lake and Shannamara. My grandparentst live in Shannamara. It is a very nice and kid friendly neighborhood.

Ballantyne is a great area with wonderful public schools. We live in southpark and are extremely happy since we love the community and my husband has an easy commute to downtown Charlotte. You should also check out Piper Glen if you want to stay in town.
Good Luck.

Check out Fort Mill, SC. It is located about 10 to 15 mins from uptown Charlotte. It is not as big or busy as Ballantyne, and has more of a hometown feel. I would recommend 2 communities; either Regent Park or Springfield. Springfield also has a new club house with a pool and tennis courts. Regent Park has all types of homes - from townhomes to houses priced at >500K. Also there are 2 greenways located near both communities for outdoor activities. Also, Fort Mill has some of the best schools in the area. Here are some links for reference.

You might want to go just south of Ballantyne, which is Weddington (or if you're willing to commute a little, to Waxhaw). That is in Union County and the school system is MUCH higher rated than in Charlotte (Mecklenburg County). It's very family oriented and nice! We love it here - close enough to the city, but far enough to have safe neighborhoods and lots of families, etc. Let us know if you move here! Blessings to you.

There are many great areas of Charlotte. There are two lakes that offer alot of ammenties in their areas; Lake Norman and Lake Wylie. Ballantyne has a nice country club and I love the area. We live just south of there in Union county. It's a growning area and moved from South Charlotte to here because of the school system. The public system is much better in Union county. There are many other great communites in this area, Marvin Creek, Longview (which has a Jack Nicklaus golf course) and Firethorne. I think Longview and Firethorne have a website you can even go look at. The
Charlotte area is a great place to raise a family with lots kids around.
I wish you luck on your search for a new home.

I have lived in Charlotte for almost 32 years. The Ballantyne area has a country club. Also in the same area of town is Providence Country club. This has an excellent area for schools. Like I said this is a wonderful side of town. Close to all kinds of shopping, doctors, etc.

When I was relocating last summer I too wanted the Ballytyne area but we have since moved into Brookhaven (John Weiland) community. It is 10-15 min from Ballantyne and we love it. Very young families with young children of all ages. There is a pool with waterslide and lazy river, tennis courts, many activities. The school is Antioch Elementary - right within walking distance.

Hi there,
I just read your posting and wanted to share with you that i live in union county-Waxhaw. Which is about 15 minutes from Ballantyne. I've been here for about 3 1/2 years and I moved from NY. Union county has good schools. Waxhaw has alot of neighborhoods that are family oriented. You should also check out the Weddington area as well.
my email is ____@____.com if you need more info. I have a really good friend of mine who is a real estate agent for Keller Williams if you are looking for an agent. She is great.

L.,
I am a native Charlottean, born and raised. Other than a few years we lived in TX and LA, NC is my home. It's always good when traveling to see that 'welcome' sign as we cross the state line.
RE: neighborhoods....Charlotte is very diverse with many areas of living. If you're interested in a CC, check out the Highland Creek area. They have a golf course, swim club, etc. Our grandchild attends the elementary school there...it's only 2 years old and well built. Conveinently located, just a few miles north of all the 'traffic', I love it.
Ballantyne is 'over rated' in my opinion. There's entirely too much traffic, not enough streets to handle all of the high volume traffic and an overall pain. If you can handle 'daily stress' of HIGH traffic, sure, Ballantyne will work for you.
I'd like to welcome you to the south and hopefully to my hometown.
