Relaxed but Unique Restaurant to Celebrate 30Th Birthday

My 30th birthday is coming up in a few weeks and we are having some close family members come to town as part of the celebration. I'm pregnant, so not entirely excited by the idea of getting "glammed up" for a night on the town, but still want to do something exciting and different. Any suggestions of good restaurants that meet the criteria in any part of the metroplex? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi N.:

How about Bucca di Beppo?

If you haven't heard of it, it's Italian and the food is served family style, with very large portions. The atmosphere is casual and fun for all ages.

Have a wonderful birthday! You will find that you only get better as you get older!

I just planned a fun 30th for my husband at Monica's Aca y Alla down in Deep Ellum. Casual, good food, inexpensive. I also love Kenny's off of Beltline and the Tollway- nice but not over-the-top. Hattie's is great southern food down in Oak Cliff- nice and quiet. Neighborhood Services is a new place off of Inwood and Lovers that is amazing. Honestly, I'm pregnant, too, and would love a party somewhere like Fireside Pies. Javier's is ALWAYS one of my favs- we do lots of birthdays there and you can be as casual as you want.

We went to Cadillac Ranch last night to celebrate my birthday. Look online at their website. Kind of like an upscale sprots bar...very classy yet casual and fun. They also have live band on the porch. Food is wonderful...different types of food. 114 & MacAthur...

Happy 30th! The Melting Pot is a great idea. Also, Breadwinners Cafe has great food and great atmosphere there are three locations in town. http://www.breadwinnerscafe.com. Breadwinners has great food, great atmosphere and they are kid friendly and amazing desserts. If you live near Plano check out http://www.shopsatlegacy.com they have great restaurants, Jaspers is really good and a nice atmosphere. After dinner you could stop at Tart bakery for their cupcake bar, yummy!

Have a Great time and congratulations on your impending delivery!

Happy early Birthday!! I don't know if the family coming in town will be bringing kids with them, but The Melting Pot is an awesome place to go for fun celebrations. It's a fondu place, and it is SO SO SO delicious. We use it for all of our special occasions. I wouldn't take kids there, just because there is a hot plate in the middle of the table, and your meal will take about 2 hours to enjoy in total. It's a great place for adults to go and visit while you eat delicious/quality food, but little ones would likely get bored.

If you will be taking kids, depending on their ages, you might want to try Jinbeh. It's a very relaxed atmosphere where they cook the food right in front of you. Very yummy stuff, and it's very entertaining.

Hope this helps.

I enjoyed celebrating my birthday a few years ago at The Melting Pot in Addison. It was very delicious and not your everyday type of meal. Highly recommend it!

If you're going to have kids in the party, I would recommend Babe's Chicken Dinner House in Roanoke. It's great food served family style, byob, and very loud so the kids can make as much noise as they want. Every time we go there, there's always children running around. They don't have dessert so you can take your own cake and they are happy to give you extra plates & forks.

Lava Grill at 121 & Grill is a sushi bar on one side, and the hibachi tables on the other. I just love it there!
