Refrigerator Brands

Please tell me about your experiences with a new refrigerator--good and bad. I'm interested in first hand stories about brands you've been happy with and brands to avoid. Assuming I can find one to fit in my existing space I'm in the market for a new, French door style refrigerator. I have a connection that would allow me to get a discount on a Maytag or Maytag-affiliated brand, but I've heard questionable things about Maytag refrigerators and am willing to consider other brands. However, I am probably not interested in investing in a luxury brand (Viking, Subzero, etc.) and it likely wouldn't fit in my space anyhow. Thanks!

What can I do next?

After doing a lot of research, I will be buying an LG French door style refrigerator for our new house. Avoid Subzero, they have been having a lot of compressor problems and are quite overpriced.

Hi Cindy

In the fall of 2007 we bought an LG French door style refrigerator and really love it. It has great space inside, you can arranged the shelves how you want them, plenty of in-door storage space. The bottom freezer, I believe, has the most capacity of all of the bottom freezer models. One of the things we like the most is that if you leave the door open for longer than 30 seconds it gently beeps to remind you to shut the door (good for my ADHD kid and hubby and MIL!) Good luck with your choice!

I purchased an LG stainless steel french door/bottom freezer recently and really like it. I did opt not to get the ice/water on the door since my kids would never leave it alone if it was on there. I got it at Home Depot and the price point was pretty good (about $1500). The shelves roll out and there is a drawer on the bottom of the fridge part that is the full width of the fridge for large items (party trays, cakes, etc). I also like the fact that there is an alarm if the fridge or freezer door is not shut all the way.

Having had a lot of bad Maytag experiences recently (stove, micro, and washer/dryer), I will never buy Maytag/Whirlpool again.

We bought a Frigidaire package last year from Warners Stellian. I love it. It is the stainless that doesn't show fingerprints. Fridge has been fine, it's a side by side with water dispenser which we use a ton!
