Red Warped Kitchen Table

I love the color of my kitchen table and it goes so well in my kitchen. However, I hate the material of the table. It is wood and painted (I believe painted) red. If I use paper plates the plates stick to the table. The table is warped. However, I love the color and if somehow this table can be fixed but I don't know how. Any ideas on how to salvage this table? It's a kitchen table so I need to be able to put anything on it including cups. After I use cups now it leaves water marks. I don't want that. Do I just need to get a new table?

What can I do next?

It sounds like solid oak. It will warp and leave a ring if you get it wet. And the only way to "fix" it is to sand it down and repaint it and make sure it it sealed with a WATERPROOF sealant. If not, you need to be dilligent about using coasters under cups and hot pads and place mats. Also using a plastic table cloth or a plastic one UNDER a regular one will help too. But to fix the table you have, it will probably be cheaper to just get a new one. Or you could try to match the red, and repaint it yourself or hire someone that knows how to to. Good luck!!!

Would a piece of glass over the top work? I have had a few tables with glass tops and as long as it is thick (1/4 inch or so) and tempered, it works great.

Can you contact a professional furniture refinisher and see if the table is worth working on? Perhaps what it needs is a new - and unwarped - top. It will need repainting and sealing, but there are a million shades of red paint out there just waiting for you to select one of them.

We had the top of our table refinished for about $100 and it looks fantastic. We found a great guy who works out of his home. Our table was not warped but had a lot of scratches and the finish was worn away in spots.
