Red Rash with Bumps

My 3 yr olddaughter was outside playing in the snow today. When she came in she had these bumps forming by her eye. Right after that it turned red and then started all over her face, ears, top of her head, around her belly button and then started on her wrists. I called the dr and he said that she may have touched something that made the rash and bumps. He told me to give her Benadryl. My husband gave her a bath and it went away just as fast as it started. Then about 15 minutes after her bath it started again. Under her eye and on her forehead. It doesn't seem to bother her but once in a while I will see her scratching. She finally fell asleep but is waking up screaming every 20 minutes or so. She asked me change her pull up and I noticed that she either has diaper rash or its this rash that she has everywhere else for it is starting down there too. I took her to the Dr on Wednesday cause she said that she had a sore throat. But the dr said it is just a cold. Could this be because of her cold or is it something else? I am taking her back to the doctors tomorrow morning. He wants to see her. Should I be worried?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took her to the doctor today and she has an ear infection and her throat is red, but still negative on the strep. As for the rash there is no explaination of it. It seems like everytime she is outside. She was out with me for about 1/2 hour while I cleaned up more snow and when she came in she had the rash on her stomach, back, legs, feet and her face. I gave her Benadryl and with in a 1/2 hour it was gone. But I used my head this time and took pictures of the rash. I have to bring her back in 2 weeks for a follow up and I will print the pictures out to show the doctor. He couldn't actually see the rash cause by the time she got up this morning it was gone. It's still a mystery. I just don't understand cause when she was out with me she had on her snow boots, snow suit, coat, hat and gloves. the only thing that was showing was her face. Well we will find out in 2 weeks just what the heck this is. Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate it.

Push on the "rash" area and see if it blances (i think is the term) but basically if you push it and the skin turns white/changes color you can hold off until tomorrow am but if it stays red then call the Dr's 24hr line and advise them of this you may need to go to the ER. This is the "rash" advice given to me by my pedi when my son broke out for the first time we still do not know what caused it but it cleared up in 24hrs.

It sounds like an allergic reaction. Especially if she's waking up every 20 minutes or so & scratching. I would try the Benadryl. See where that gets you. Don't wait a long time though. If it is an allergic reaction and it's all over her body like that and welting then that may be an ER visit.

Sounds mysterious. A lot of times cold viruses cause rashes a day or so later. My youngest often got weird rashes after a cold started. Could it be hand foot and mouth disease or roseola? They are both very common and have a strange rash but are harmless.

If her sore throat was misdiagnosed and it was step throat she could have scarlet fever, it's a pretty common thing to get with strep now.

Strep throat comes to mind; usually a sore throat with a red bumpy rash. other symptoms are being very tired, headache, sore neck. Can you look at her throat? Are there white dots? Its probably strep and needs antibiotics. Take her to doctor tomorrow.

Rashes are nearly impossible to completely diagnose even after they have been biopsied. I know our 16 mo got roseola which is viral and is exihibited by a rash of usually tiny red bumps that occur rapidly all over the body. If the Benadryl doesn't work it might be something to check into.
