Last week I noticed my 8 mo old son developed 5 little red pimple type bumps on his upper thigh. They resemble bug bites but not from a mosquito. He also has 1 on the other leg too. They don't seem to bother or itch him at all. I applied some hydrocortisone but theyre not going away. Any idea what they can be?

5. random bug or spider bites
just a few suggestions without knowing all the possible causes, and not actually seeing the child i cannot internet diagnose what it is. and i am not a dr, i am a mommy
My nephew had a similar occurrence, turned out it was hand, foot, mouth virus. I'd say go to pediatrician to rule it out, we also did Aveeno oatmeal baths which helped. Hope everything turns out ok :)
Are the gypsy moth caterpillars bad around you? We've had a huge problem with nasty bumps from the toxins in the little hairs on their legs (which also come off when the caterpillar is bothered or even sprayed, and then you can get a reaction just by sitting in the grass. Also the hairs can blow in the wind). They're hard or impossible to see. I find the bumps don't respond well to cortisone, unfortunately. This is the first year we've seen this, and we've been in our house over 20 years.
I also think they could be small spider bites - they tend to appear in clusters, and often where there is constriction such as a natural fold in the skin, under a waistband, maybe the diaper elastic, etc.
Flea bites are possible but I would think everyone would have them. Fleas jump, so bites on adults are usually from the knees down. On a baby they can be anywhere.
Did you call the doctor?
Has he had a fairly high fever? Do you see any blisters (kind of like cold sores) in the back of his throat or on his tongue or the inside of his lip? Has he stopped eating? If any of these are yes, I'd give the PEID a heads up and see if they'll come to the car to diagnose him. Hand Foot and Mouth is out in full bloom right now and kids are infectious before the fever starts and spots show up. It lasts 7-10 days and sucks because if you leave, you can expose other kids.
We ended up being unknowingly exposed by 3 separate kids at a grad party. Neither of 2 kids had the same exact symptoms over the nearly 2 weeks we were self-quarantined in order to not expose others. When I called the led, she said don't bring them in .... Just treat the symptoms with Maalox, and alternating Advil and Tylenol.
Here's to hoping it's not HFMD and clears up quickly.
