Red Eyes

Hey guys!
I have a weird problem going on in my house. My daughter for a while now has had red eyes. My husband & I just started noticing it in our eye/eyes too. It's a weird red line that goes from the color of our eye, back to the corner. Our eyes don't hurt, there is no discharge or anything...no vision loss. Just that weird red line. It looks awful and I'm just worried that there is something wrong?
Recently we have had a lot of illness in the house: strep throat, pink eye, stomach bugs, etc. so we got someone to come out & check for mold. We might have a mold problem & we also discovered that our heating system was installed improperly & may have leaked a bit of carbon monoxide out during the winter. Scary, right? We have told the pediatrician, but she doesn't seem concerned. Just wondering if anyone else has this red line & then maybe I can chill out!!!

What can I do next?

Because of the several possible predisposing conditions of both illness and environmental exposures which have resulted in this occurrence with more than one family member in a seemingly similar way, you need to get this checked. However, be certain you go to an eye care PHYSICIAN specialist, and NOT a mall "doc" as are usually employed at eyecare and eye glass chain stores. That is, be sure you make an appointment with an OPHTHALMOLOGIST and NOT an OPTOMETRIST or an OPTICIAN. For simplicity when making an appointment look for M.D. after the name and not D.O. They are both referred to orally as "doctor". While some optometrists are very good and have seen a variety of eye ailments and can dispense certain medications, only an ophthalmologist can provide a complete and extensive exam and deal with all plausible aspects of your illness. It goes without saying that this is nothing for an optician to handle.

I would go to an optometrist and get it checked out. It's most probably related to the strep and pink eye.

Hi!

You are definitely not alone! I have this and sometimes it's quite noticeable but most often it's not. I've had it checked and was told it's picquenella - I'm sure I just butchered the spelling. It's basically two raised dots on either side of the cornea and they occasionally get irritated. I was told I could use drops to constrict the blood vessels but I don't bother. I do notice the lines when I'm sleep deprived. I think you should definitely look into it since all three of you are experiencing this. Could it be seasonal allergies?

Good luck!

Hi -- I'm so glad you and your family are OK after the carbon monoxide; that is really scary. I second the advice to see an opthamologist (not an optometrist or optician). Also, you've probably already done this, but if not, I would get a carbon monoxide detector for each floor of the house. I hope it all works out.

Sounds like blood vessels - but it's weird that it just all of a sudden became apparent in all three of you. I would get it checked out, but it will probably just go away on its own with rest and wellness. :)

I am not sure about your families red eyes but I would worry about the constant illness in your household. There can be so many things wrong like lead or radon or something in the water. Even the electrical fields can be harmful to the immune system. I know you can get home test kits for the lead and radon. I saw a home test kit on The Drs that is sold by greennest.com. The whole website specializes in purifying your home. It might give you some answers. I hope that everything goes ok.
Good luck.

It may just be as simple as allergies. My daughter has the same issue every year and she also has no other symptoms.
