Red Bumps on Arms & Legs?

Suddenly I have this bizarre rash like thing on my hands and legs. I can't remember what the dermatoloist called it but the only treatment was lotion? Has anyone heard of this?

What can I do next?

Amlactin Lotion is what you normally use for this. It is usually hair folicals that are clogged, and can get infection if not treated. At the pharmacy I work at we see it all the time! Try a gental exfoliating body scrub then use Amlaction Lotion, it also comes in a cream form. The LacHydrin in it helps to get rid of the bumps!

Hey M.,

My doctor said he wanst to see ALL rashes. It could be shingles and they can treat it if you get to the Dr. in time. Have you seen the doctor? Chicken pox is going around and it sometimes can make shingles flare up in adults.

It sounds like keratosis pilaris. It's a genetic condition where protein in the skin builds up in the hair follicles and plugs them up giving the skin a red, bumpy appearance. The build-up can also cap off the follicle causing an ingrown hair. Most dermatologists recommend exfoliation and lotion. There is no cure but for some people, it will diminish (or even disappear) on its own with age.

I get a rash every spring. I go to the tanning bed a few times (only for a few minutes) and it clears up. This along with the lotion helps tremendously. But you didn't hear it from me....

I agree with the keratosis that others have responded. I've had it for years and didn't know what it was until I took my daughter who was 1 at the time for a checkup and she had it and the doc said what it was. Her pediatrician recommended using one of those nylon scrunchies for the bath to exfoliate the skin. It definitely works. Good luck.

Try the Skinlogics Corticure Comfort Lotion from Beauticontrol or the Thermal Del Sol Body Butter Balm great products for Eczema!

It is keratosis pilaris. I have it on the back of my arms. When I asked my dr. about it, he said getting out in the sun was the only thing that would make it go away. Unfortunately, I burn very easily so I stay out of the sun but did notice that in the summer, my left arm isn't as bad as my right (just from the sun while I am driving).

I have seen an ad for a DermaDoctor KP Duty lotion that is supposed to help. Another board that I read has discussed KP and said that the KP Duty Lotion does work but it is expensive.

Hi M., yes my husband has been having the same thing. He also went to a dermatologist and like you I don't remember what he called it but lotion is supposedly the only thing that will help it. Well he use's the lotion faithfully but the only thing that has cleared it up for any length of time at all is a vacation in California. No kidding we came out here to visit our two son's and it has cleared up. We don't know if it is the sun on it or just why this has happened. I don't know where you live but we live in Indiana and we go back home next Wed. so we will see if it comes back.
Good Luck K.
