Red Armpits!

Help! I have recently noticed that my armpits are red and itch a little bit. It happened a few weeks ago, seemed to go away by itself but now it is back. Mostly it is red, looks like a sunburn, and itches off and on. I switched to salt rock deodorant over 3 years ago, haven't switched soap, etc. Is it possible it is an allergy developed to the salt rock? I've also seen postings about yeast infection? I've stopped using the deodorant a couple days ago without relief - and this is a bad time of year to quit deodorant!

What can I do next?

I have a weird body and my body composition apparently changes all the time--I can't wear any deodorant for more than 2 weeks at a time or my body develops an allergic reaction to it. So I have 3 or 4 different ones and I rotate them so I don't wear the same one every day and it helps a lot. the past 3 days I just reached for the one I left on the bathroom counter and today I have itching and a small rash again...moral of my story is put the deodorant away...and switch it up. One of my sisters has to do the same thing.
good luck...

I have ran into the exact same thing, I went to see the local walk in. They took a scrap and come to find out I was allergic to the deodorant I had used since I was 13. I went about 2 weeks without using anything, which I hated, right in the middle of summer. But after two weeks it went away, I now use a different deodorant, and have never had a problem since.

This so seams like a yeast infection to me. I get it every time I am pregnant on my armpits, sometimes on my chest, and at my bikini area. Since my last child was born, I seem to get it every time my period is due now. It is just lovely! I use Lotramin (sp?). Seems to work just fine. You can also run to the docs office and they can prescribe you a cream that works perfectly. Good luck.

It sounds like heat rash to me. I get it in my armpits, in the crook of my arm and behind my knees. Especially when I'm pregnant (like right now) or the weather starts to get warmer. It seems my body needs time to adjust to the heat. Antibacterial lotions (unscented) seem to help. An anti fungal cream might help too, like some other suggestions. Mostly I just try to keep it clean, cool and dry as much as possible. It usually disappears within a couple of weeks.

Agreed. It is likely deodorant alergy. I've had the same probelm in the past, and switched recently to Burt's Bees deodorant. It works great, not an antiperspirant, but if that's not a problem for you, give it a try.

I had that going on once & finally tried some athlete's foot cream & it cleared right up. The itching stopped right away which made me think I was on the right track. Just another possibility to throw in the mix........ :)
Hope you get it figured out!
