Recycling Batteries?
Does anyone know of a place that accepts dead batteries for recycling in the DFW area? I hate to keep putting them in the trash and they add up quickly with all the kid's toys and remotes we have!

I heard you can take them to photo labs, like Target and Walgreens, and htey will recycle. They have to take batteries out of disposable cameras that's why they have the service for themselves.

I'm so glad to hear you're thinking about this. I save mine up and take them to IKEA whenever I make a trip. They recycle them there. I've also heard that some Target stores take old batteries too, you may want to call your local store and ask. I know Batteries Plus takes all other types of batteries and old cell phones and electronic batteries and Best Buy takes old rechargeable batteries. I agree, there needs to be more places to safely eliminate this toxic trash!

I know the city of Allen where I live had a hazardous waste management department that will come pick up all hazardous household waste including batteries if you call to schedule a pick-up. They even provide a special bin. Do a search of your cities waste program or call city hall. I now save all batteries and other things like paint until they pile up and then schedule a pick up. It is an under-used program that I think everyone should participate in knowing how bad for the environment batteries are. Good luck.

I live in Frisco and most of the elementary (public) schools have battery recycling bins through the city's recycling program. Ask in your neighborhood.

Are you talking about just regular batteries...AAA or AA, etc? I take mine to Staples where they also accept empty printer cartridges. They accept up to 10 cartridges a month & I just got a check for $27 in the mail yesterday! I don't think there's anyone who pays for batteries though.

I've heard that Home Depot takes them. You may want to call one close to you and check.

Radio Shacks recycle batteries. I just keep a baggie and when it gets full, drop them off.

Elementary schools have recycle bins for them. FInd a school with some sort of Green Team, and they will gladly get them recycled for you! Call Radio Shack, or Best Buy, they should have recycle bins.
