Recommended OB in Newport News?

I currently go to Woman Care of Williamsburg but the Sentara they deliver at does not have a NICU and I am having twins. Am I wrong to think that this would be important to their birth? I would like to switch OBs to someone in Newport News so I can deliver at Riverside but I am new to the area and not sure who would be the best.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the recommendations! I called everyone you listed and with me being so far along in my pregnancy now, no one had room for us. I think these dr's take a certain amount of deliveries per month and August seems to be a busy one!! I have voiced my concerns to another dr. in my office and she was the first to think I have a valid point so she did put me at ease about the situation. Thank you again for all your input!

I do not think it is wrong. My question is why you feel the hospitals in Williamsburg are not equipped to handle twins. Has any concerns been voiced? If there is a problem with the twins after birth, they will be moved to an appropriate hospital. Can you ask if Riverside is one of those choices versus CHKD (southside) or a Richmond location. I choose to have my daughter at Riverside because of the NICU also, for the "Just in case". Are you happy with the care you are currently getting? Have they voiced any concerns? Keep in mind - Doctors may rotate hospital schedules - my daughter was delivered by a stranger from a different practice. I really liked him and moved to his office during my next pregnancy which sadly ended in a miscarriage. His name is Dr. John Lockhardt. You either like him or don't, there don't seem to be any middle of the road with him I have found. The practice also has some good midwives, I was seeing one (can't remember her name). The number is ###-###-####. They are located in Oyster Point Industrial Area. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I read the other responses after writing mine - I see someone else likes Dr. Lockhardt!

I am seeing Dr. Peter Heyl at his office in Riverside Hopsital. He is with Maternal-Fetal Medicine with Eastern Virginia Medical School. ###-###-####. They deal with high-risk pregnancies (which I think includes twins). Unfortunately, they only deliver at Sentara Norfolk General, so it means a trip across the water for delivery. However, he said that no one to date has ever delivered in the tunnel! ;-)

I like the doctors and nurses there, although the front office staff isn't always quite on top of things. But if you stay on top of the billing and your appointment calendar, you will probably have an enjoyable experience there.

I go to Women's Health Care at 401 Oyster Point Road in Newport News. Their phone number is ###-###-####, and they are affiliated with Riverside. The nurse practioner there, Maya, is especially nice. I would definitely want a hospital with a NICU just in case with any baby, and even more so with twins. Good luck!

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Lockhart at "Lockhart & Yeatts". Everyone at their practice, the doctors, nurses, staff, etc. are WONDERFUL! If you see them you will deliver at Riverside. Doctor Lockhart delivered my daughter there and I had the best birthing experience. A lot of other moms in my mommies group also go to the same clinic and rave about Dr. Lockhart as well! Good luck to you!

I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Robert Hill. He is in Hampton on Executive Dr but he does deliver at Riverside. I have been going to him for the last 12+ years.
