Recommendations on Health Insurance Companies

We are moving to Boulder and are shopping for insurance. I was wondering if any of you have had particularly good or bad experiences locally using Humana, United, or Anthem. I'd hate to chose one only to find out that a lot of doctors are dropping them or the ones who do use them are all worthless or really expensive. While I'm asking - anyone have a pediatrician or OB on one of those who they really like? Thanks, Boulder mamas!

What can I do next?

Well when I went shopping for insurance boy was I surprised when they wouldn't insure me. I never thought 2x about quitting my job and obtaining insurance but I was denied and the family was excepted. We went with Aetna because of the price and you could go anywhere. You get what you pay for and I didn't really have a bad experience however they kept raising the rates. So every few months the premiums would go up and apparently they can do that. I now qualify and so we are now with a different company - Contact Jennifer @ Genesis - ____@____.com so helped me set it up and I am getting locked rates for 3 years and insurance for all of us for the price I was paying for the 3 of them. However I haven't had it very long so Im not sure how great it is yet as for coverage. Im sure they are all about the same. I do know that if you are planning on having more kids you have to add a maternity rider and some wont insure you if that is your plan. I had a tubal ligation and wound up in the hospital with a ruptured etopic pregnancy needing emergency surgery and it was not covered. So that sucks. But why would I get maternity coverage when I am not supposed to be able to have kids. I dont live in Boulder so no help there. Good luck!!

We are currently with United, and have been quite happy. When my husband was an independent contractor, we were with Anthem, and HATED them. Then he went to work for a new company, and they had Anthem, and I hated them even more. I would not recommend Anthem to anyone. I had Humana years ago, and they were pretty good. The best insurance we ever had was through Cigna.

We have United Healthcare at work and it has been great. They review the policy every year and we always vote to keep it.

Hi L.,

I have had United and Anthem. Most recently United. I really think that all of them are good. I am a Life Insurance agent so if you would ever like any info. please let me know. I wont say my specific company (Because I am not supposed to advertise on this site.. I wont say the name). I can tell you that we are rated the top two out of four companies. Also, I am not a broker.. I am a direct agent for this company. I am a mom like you, I have two beautiful daughters one is 9 and one is almost 19!
I live in Longmont. :) Thanks C. ###-###-####

Hi L.,

My husband, Dewey, is an independent insurance broker (health & life insurance) in the state of Colorado. Feel free to call him - I promise he is not a pushy salesman! He can answer your questions about qualifying for health insurance. If you are shopping for individual insurance (versus group insurance) then United's coverage is not as good. Anthem generally has better coverage, but is usually more expensive than Humana. Most doctors accept all three of these plans (however my husband thinks that Humana isn't quite as popular and their customer service isn't as good).

Dewey's number is ###-###-####. Hope that helps!
