Recommendations for Breast Pumps
Hi all,
I need to get a breast pump because I will return to working full time after maternity leave. I don't know anything about pumps, but I do know some of the things I need. I do want something portable because I will have to bring it to work. I would like something hands free and quick (double pump). Any suggestions would be helpful!

J.-
I absolutely love the Medela Freestyle. It's a little more expensive than the different Pump in Style models, but it's so worth it. I have actually walked around the house, prepared my lunch, and done other stuff while I'm pumping. This is only possible because the motor is so tiny and isn't part of some huge bag. I love, love, love my FreeStyle!

Hi J.,
I am a teacher also who recently had a daughter named J.! It's a great name, I'm sure u love it too! Anyway, I also used medela double pump in style that I got at buy buy baby. I'll sell you mine for much less than what you can buy it at the stores. I had to stop breast feeding as I was not producing. I had the same problem when I had my son, whose now four. So for me, it was ok to give it up. Anyway,if you are interested please let me know. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

Ameda Purely Yours. Forget the Medela version, it's almost twice as expensive and not necessary. The Ameda works great. I had to pump exclusively for the first two weeks. I went back to work when she was 8 weeks and pumped multiple times a day until she was four months. The pump worked wonderfully. I believe I ordered mine from happymothers.com. I looked online and found a coupon with a 10 or 15% percent discount plus freeshipping. It was great.

Hi J., I loved the medella breast pump-very sturdy and efficient. Also, check out the following article on breastfeeding workplace laws:

I used Medela and they make many versions (single, double, etc). They are all portable, and come in travel packs. http://www.medela.us/ As for hands free, I used the Easy Expressions products. They look a little crazy but really did the job. I was able to close the door in my office, use the computer, take phone calls, etc. witout missing a beat. http://www.easyexpressionproducts.com/
On another note, I used the Adiri bottles while I nursed. My daughter had no issues going from the breast in the evenings to the Adiri bottles during the day while I was away from her. http://www.adiri.com/ Hope this helps. Good luck with everything and congrats on the pending arrival!

Rent a hospital grade pump like the Medela Symphony. That's what I used. Its fairly small in size, heavier than the cheaper ones but still ok to carry. I suggest this because the quality is a million times better, easier on the breasts (trust me on that) and it's sooo quiet. You'll need that for privacy at work. The medela pump-in-style was SO loud and harsh on the breast. Best of luck to you oh yeah, you'll get more milk in a shorter time with the symphony.

As a breastfeeding counselor, I have always recommended Medela. However, a new pump is on the market called Hygeia which the lactation consultants around here are raving about. Its less expensive than medela and you can resell it...its marketed for multiple users, while medela is not. Check their website.

I got the Evenflo dual one (and never used it for both at the same time ironically) --it was cheaper than some of the others but worked well. It also comes w/a detachable thermos bag w/ice pack, 4 bottles, etc. I used it to nurse 2 children and when my first one had a problem, Evenflo sent me another right away.
