Recommendation for Video Monitors

We are expecting our second baby in just a few weeks. I am interested in purchasing a video monitor. We have always used a Fisher Price sound monitor for our first son with no complaints. While we no longer have a monitor on at night for him, I still like it for his naps when we are on different floors of our house. So I definitely will need an additional monitor for the new baby's room. I like the idea of a video monitor but am curious to see if anyone has experience with which brands actually work well. Specifically if anyone has used a two room video monitor as well.

What can I do next?

We have the summertime handheld one. I've tried many many monitors on the market, and this is the one that had less static, great visuals, and portability.

We have the Summer 7" flat screen color monitor and we love it!! It does get interference sometimes, but moving the screen a few inches always helps.

We have the Summer monitor from Target and we absolutely love it! No more peeking in the room to make sure the baby is okay or having to interfere with "crying self to sleep". I say it is a must have for every parent!

Thanks for asking this question. I am on the same mission. I can tell you what NOT to get. The Bebe sounds flat panel LCD video and sound monitor. I am returning it today due to tons of interference.

I think the "Summer" brand is by far the best baby monitor maker. They are available at www.babiesrus.com or on amazon, I think, too.

Hi, I got a tv monitor for my son and really love it. It is the black and white Summer brand.
At first when we got it i could never get the volume right, it would make these weird lound buzzing noises. It use to drive us crazy. So we ended up using the hand held monitor for the volume and keep the volume of the video one. We wanted to return it but couldnt find the receipt.
Anyways maybe like months later our hand held monitor battery was low so we couldnt use it. WE decided to try the volume on the tv monitor again and I dont know waht my husband did but it has worked out fine since then. It may just be reception, i didnt really change the channels, i dont know. But other than that little problem we love it, it is a great crystal clear picture and the volume works great. I"m glad we kept it as other video monitors i have heard complaints about the pictures not being clear and for me that is obviously important. We only have one child so only one monitor. It doesnt hurt to buy it at babies r us test it out and if u dont like it return it. I say babies r us as they are really good about returns even if you loose your receipt. Good luck

FYI: I have heard that video monitors make it really easy for burglers to tap into the frequency to see if anyone is home or not so they can break in. I am not sure how much truth there is to this, but it is worth looking into.

We used the Mobi for our daughter and loved it. They are on the more expensive side, but we felt it was worth it - the reception is crystal clear and the camera has great night vision. It can be plugged in or battery operated, and the monitor portion can be carried a pretty far distance (can't remember exactly how far, but far). Also, it can be hooked up to the TV and then recorded on VCR - think of the possibilities - you can watch what the babysitter was doing while you were away. Overall, a great buy.

Hi C.,

I saw a story about these video baby monitors on Good Morning America not to long ago and it did say that even cars with those back up camera's can pick up the signal and see everything in the babies room. Plus, with it sitting next to your bed I would think it could cause problems getting to sleep and not just laying there watching every movement. Here is something I found online about the story.

Just like everyone else, we have summer video monitor. We have had no problems with it. I have twins, so I was also able to get another camera to see both our chidren. It works great no problems what-so-ever. We also have the sound monitor as well, but we never used it.

I have the Summer's brand video monitor and LOVE it! It really works well and you can see them even in the middle of the night while it's pitch black. I still use it for my 17 month old, and am expecting baby number two in less than two months. We are purchasing another one for the nursery. It's nice to be able to check in on them without taking the chance of waking them. I HIGHLY recommend the Summer's brand video monitor.

I have a video monitor from Target. Its Summer brand but you can get it at other places too. Try walmart, they will be cheaper. It works great and you can see your baby anywhere you go. It was about $200.
