This is kind of a strange question but...

My family is having a reunion and everyone always brings their own types of food (Meat dish, sides, deserts, etc...) I am more of a dessert and candy maker (its what I am best at) I was wondering if anyone could give me some idea's of something new to do. The dessert I am most popular for is a seven layer dessert but it takes a long time to make and a lot of work. Someone had suggested a ice cream cake or pie but I'm not even sure how I would do that.

So I am kind of looking for something AMAZING but also kind of simple at the same time. Also does anyone know a great potato salad recipe? Any help you can give me would be amazing and I'd like to thank you in advance.

(If it is a long recipe or something you don't want to put in a comment feel free to send it in a message)

Thank you for all the wonderful idea's!! I can not wait to try every thing, I am very thankful for all of you that helped I was really stuck on what to make.

To Stefani B.-
Honestly I do not care if I messed up spelling something or if it bothered you... I find it absolutely ridiculous that you would read through a question and go to the trouble of commenting to tell them something like that. I have a pet-peeve too and it is people like you. It is one of the reasons I wish mamapedia had a delete button for comments. So thank you, your comment was completely useless to my situation.

My hubby loves my potato salad and it's very simple.
I use red potatoes, red onion, pickles, mayo, horseradish sauce and dry mustard and of course eggs. I garnish with olives and/or paprika. I don't measure anything so can't give you that info...sorry!
dessert: my go-to is apple crisp with caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream. I have an easy recipe for that if you want it.

Switching from pastry to savory can be, uh, difficult.

Sticking with dessert:

Know how to make truffle stuffed figs? SUPER easy, about $50 per 300 of them (I always laugh till I get cramps when I see them sell for $4 each in catalogues), just very time consuming. Apx 2-4 hours plus about 6 hours in the fridge.

Savory:

Mini Carne Asada

The truffle stffed figs recipe I'l PM on request, I'll post the carne asada recipe after lunch

I find that flourless chocolate tortes are usually pretty easy and look super fancy! I usually use Ghiradelli recipes (or at the very least Ghiradelli chocolate) in my recipes and they turn out great. You could look on their website, they have a ton listed. Topping the torte with fruit (raspberries or strawberries) and homemade whipped cream adds a nice touch. Tirimisu is also pretty easy but looks fancy, but you'll have to have a springform pan. One of my best recipes is a recipe for Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake and it is to die for! I got it off Food Network's website and I've made it a few times to rave reviews!

*Ice cream sundae bar. It's just fun. (Caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, sprinkles, mini choc chips, whip cream, m&m's etc.)
*Cookie tower: oreo cookies, chocolate chip cookies, Stella Doro cookies on a fancy silver or glass graduated tower. Just looks fun plus it's like a buffet and you get to have more than one type. Plus it's easy.
*mini donut buffet (purchased or homemade)
*Buy a Whitman's sampler chocolate box (cheaper than See's) and take them out of the box, showcasing them on a silver or glass platter. fun?

my biggest request is triple chocolate cake. devils food cake mix made to package directions, add a pouch of instant chocolate pudding anf a bag of miniature chocolate chips. I cook it in a bundt pan. It comes out moist and fudgey and ridiculous! Dont even need icing. I frost it if it's going to sit in the fridge so it doesnt get dry, otherwise, just serve with whip cream and fresh whole strawberries. The beauty of the bundt pan is you can cut it into servings and arrange on a platter for easy service.

I am famous for this cake...I mean seriously famous in my city, word of mouth has spread and I get SO many requests for me to make people this cake and it is SO EASY! I made it the very first time for my sister's b-day (like 6 years ago) and it spread like wild fire! After that I got 3 requests from people at the party to make it for them for their b-days and so on and so on....people I do not even know find me and tell me they tried my cake at so and so's party and they would like one and how it isn't like any other cake they have tried, not too sweet...anyway, it is easy and apparently uber delicious! I have tried it and it IS good but it is NOT chocolate and I am a chocolate person :)

The Strawberry Cake
Make plain white cake from a box, whatever your favorite kind is.
*I make 2 :8 or 9 inch rounds, for the double layer.
Mix 1 tub of Cool whip with 1 small (regular individual serving size) container of Yoplait strawberry yogurt...this is your frosting!
First put down a layer of frosting on one cake, then a layer of fresh sliced strawberries, then a second layer of frosting then put the other cake on top and frost the cake.

Easy. Done. Everyone will love it. Promise. It is SO weird?!

**I usually make 2 batches of 'frosting' just to be sure I have enough...because one is not enough and then I save the leftover 'frosting' and strawberries for my kids for dipping, easy snack!

Hello, I've been wanting to reply to this note, but no time this week end. I have an easy delicious recipe that's always a hit. Go onto "All Recipes.com" and type in Chocolate Passion Bowl. You can make your own brownies or buy them. You get more when you bake em. I've also
used strawberries instead of raspberries to change it up, either of them good. When I make it at home I use my trifle dish and it looks as good as it taste, but if you're taking it somewhere purchase a plastic type trifle or any plastic clear dish will do. Make it look yummy! Double it, because everyone will love it! Good luck...................

A.: The word for the food is spelled, DESSERT, with two S's. You have described an arid land mass by spelling it with one S. The easy way to remember this is that you always want two desserts, but only want to be in one desert.

Sorry, this is just a pet-peeve of mine!

Here's a good ice-cream dessert called Scrumptious Mocha Ice-Cream Dessert:
24 oreo cookies, crushed
1/3 cup butter, melted
Mix these two and put into 9x13 pan. Chill
Spread on 1/2 gallon of softened coffee ice-cream. Freeze
Soften 1 (8oz) jar of hot fudge sauce (do not melt) and spread onto ice-cream layer. Freeze
Whip 1 1/2 cups heavy cream with 1 1/2 oz Kahlua liqueur and 1/4 cup powdered sugar, spread over chocolate layer.
Sprinkle with 1/2 - 3/4 cup chopped pecans or toasted almonds. Freeze
Cut into squares.

I also did a recipe similar to the gal who posted the Triple Chocolate Cake, but made it in a 9x13 pan and then whipped 1 1/2 cups milk with 1 pkg. Dream Whip and 1 small pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix. Spread that on top of the cake and sprinkle with mini choco chips. Very moist!

My granny used to make Black Bottom cupcakes and bring them to all the family functions and since she's been gone I have carried on the tradition and make them for all the family get-togethers. Everyone always loves them!! They are so easy to make and they are always such a big hit!

Black bottom cupcakes

Ingredients:

8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/3 cup granulated white sugar
1 large egg
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 package of devil’s food cake mix
1 cup chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven according to directions on cake mix package. Line muffin pans with paper liners. Prepare the cake mix as specified on the box. In separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the sugar, egg and vanilla extract and beat until creamy and smooth. Fold in chocolate chips.

2. Evenly divide the batter among the muffin cups (about 1/3 full). Then spoon a few tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each cupcake.

3. Bake according to box instructions or until the cream cheese mixture just barely starts to turn a light golden brown.

Enjoy!!

My Potato Salad for a crowd:

5 Lbs Idaho Potatos
Dozen eggs hard boiled
1 heart of celery chopped small
Mayonaise

Cook the potatoes whole in boiling water until the skins split, drain and cool. Peel the skins and chop the potatoes into course squares. Chop the eggs and add with the celery to the potatoes. Mix with mayonaise until it has the consistancy that you want. You can add mustard, horseradish, garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder or anything else that tickles your fancy. You can also use red potatos and leave the skin on - it is even easier.

Dessert Pizza. Crust is made of sugar cookie dough. Just buy the tube and slice it up. Place all the circles touching each other onto a pan. Bake. Cream cheese is mixed with sugar and spread over it. Top with cut up fruit (strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, etc). It is so simple and people really go crazy over it. It is great for kids and adults.
