Hi moms, I have a 4llb whole pork loin that I was wondering if I could put in the crock pot to make some pork taco's out of?? All the recipes I have come across all call for Pork Shoulder Roast. Sorry I am not a big meat person , but I have a group of people coming to my house this Sat. to watch a Pay-per-view Boxing fight and was hoping to be able to use this. Can someone give me a step by step recipe to use this for Pork Tacos?? I also have 6 lbs of Chicken Fajita meat already marinated that I was going to cook as well and thought they could have the choice of either chicken or pork. Didn't want to have to spend more money on beef with this pork loin i n my freezer! Thanks in advance!

I make pork quite a bit in the crock pot. For us, I just like using coarse salt and pepper (lots of it) or Candian Steak Seasoning and then give each person the option of what sauce they want to top it with (bbq or salsa on tortillas)

Yes you can. I've done that and it works great. Salt and Pepper it pretty good. Cook it until it's falling apart. When you get ready to eat it, take it apart, put a little bit of BBQ sauce on it. Wonderful ! We eat ours on corn tortillas (softened just a little in oil), and topped with coleslaw, SW corn (out of the can and heated), and cheddar cheese. Everyone in our house loves them.

Are you stuck on pork tacos?

I tried something the other day from Ladies home journal... Pulled pork sandwiches.

I am not a big crock pot user but I used a Pork Butt roast (ask your butcher if substituting loin might work). I made a dry rub made with cayenne, salt, pepper, thyme, paprika and rubbed it all over the roast. Then I put 1 cup of water in the crock pot, and cooked it all day. It was very tender, pulled apart just great and made great sandwiches.

I did go to Dickey's BBQ for their medium and hot bbq sauce.

Yes it should work fine. I would cut it into at least 3 pieces and brown it on each side first in a little olive oil..
Place a large onion sliced in the bottom of the pot, add 2 cloves of garlic season the meat with salt pepper and a little ground cumin before lightly browning each side. .

Pour 1/4 cup water on top.

Start it off on high for about 2 hours and then cook on low for about 4 more hours.. should be perfect.

don't have a recipe but I've used a pork loin instead of shoulder. Since a loin is a less fatty cut of meat it will need extra time to cook and get tender. It will also shrink quite a bit in size. I often use the pork loin on the grill - I grill it on high on all sides quickly, then turn one side of the grill off and leave the other side on low and put the loin over the turned-off side. It takes about 30minutes this way and I glaze with a apricot jam & soy sauce misture (it sounded good and I had both in the cabinet one day). Then I slice thick slabs and pour the remaining glaze over it - serve with rice. But I have to say, tacos sound awfully good too!

I always use loin as it has less fat. Put enough water in the crock pot to just cover the bottom of the pot. Salt and pepper the meat and place in pot. I don't usually get that big a loin, but we are only two adults and two little ones. I cook it for 4+ hours on high or 8+ on low or until it falls apart. I don't know if taco seasoning would be good on pork but we love pulled pork sandwiches or like me- I just take a forkfull of pork and dip it in a little BBQ sauce and eat- no bun.

I would cook it all day (8 hrs) on high, drain liquid, shred it up and add your taco seasonings. It should be fine.

Why not try this recipe for Slow Cooked Orange Pork Roast Tacos. I know it calls for a different cut of pork but in the slow cooker it wont be an issue to use a pork loin (I just did one last week myself and it was delicious). I think the orange will give it a unique taste that your friends will love!

Like others said, if you are not stuck on the taco idea...I would just cook it IN the BBQ sause....after a few hours it will fall apart and you can "pull it" apart and let it cook longer for more flavor on low. Serve on some good buns for pulled pork sandwiches.

We are not big pork people here, so I only cook it 2 ways..LOL...for the pulled sandwiches (I do chicken this way too...no fuss and super easy)..or I do in another super simple crock pot recipe.

Sorry, no help with the taco thing. Maybe you could cook it simply in a salsa..get a big jug of Pace or other salsa (the watery regular variety..not the chunk kind)..and cook it in that all day. Thats what I would do! LOL

Geeze..now my mouth is watery! Time to go check my Olive Garden Copy cat soup...no tacos for me.....

Good Luck!

Slice the pork roast and place it in the crock pot on low with a two packages of chili mix and tomato sauce or rotel and a 16 oz jar of salsa. Let it cook for 5 hours. Cover the lid with a cloth hand towel, but don't let the towel drape over the side. The towel acts like an insulator and low with a towel is the same as high without a towel. Place the pork slices in a serving bowl and mix it up so it breaks apart. Place the chili mix and rotel in another bowl beside the pork.

Good luck to you and yours.

I would do the crockpot thing, but do more of a BBQ Pulled Pork idea with it. If you leave it for a slow (low) cook in water overnight, it should just fall apart. Once the fall apart happens... Mix some thick BBQ sauce with the 'pork shavings'. A good potato bun is awesome with this!
