I am seeking other Moms to car pool with from Lake Forest Estates @ Stanford and Flower Mound who have children attending Old Settlers. I am also looking for ideas to sell many items(washer, dryer, couches, desk, etc). One more thing... I need a Girls Night Out to vent over a margaritta every now & then too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all of you! I am so excited to have access to mamasource. In less than two weeks I am already feeling a connection to the community. You guys are great!!!!!!!!!! I am definitly going to get my items posted on Craiglist. I went to OSE 1st grade Orientation this evening, and have some perspective Moms to carpool. And... I want to join in on the GNO's once I feel a little more settled. I will be
e-mailing all of you personally as time allows me. We are slowly getting unpacked. Our pool and 8 week old puppy are keeping us from working too much... which is a good thing. We could let the work consume us if we didn't have either of them. It makes us slow down to enjoy with the kiddos. Thanks again for all the welcoming and informative feedback.

Hi M.,

I lived in Ohio (Zanesville, Buckeye Lake)for 35 years. I am a huge Ohio State fan! My husband and I relocated to Flower Mound last year due to his job. I can't help you with the carpooling since my daughter is only 5 weeks old, but I would love to meet up for a drink sometime. Let me know. :-)

I can't help with the carpooling either, but try your PTA.... I wonder if they have a meeting coming up? You could meet lots of other parents there or watch who's walking to the school that night and strike up a conversation about carpooling.

Welcome to Flower Mound! Can't help on the carpool situation, I have a 3 year old and 1 year old. However, I wanted to recommend listing your items on craigslist.com. I've heard it's a great resource.

Good luck with getting settled!

You may wish to join some of the local Moms groups out here - I found them extremely helpful when our family was relocated down here last summer.

Here's a few I found handy:

www.greaterlewisvillemothersandmore.org

Moms Club - Flower Mound Southwest.

Greater Lewisville Early Childhood PTA

Feel free to email me directly for more info - I know at least one of our members who lives in your area, and might even have her daughter in your daughter's class at Old Settlers!

Best of luck settling in - I have been here a year now, and we really enjoy it. I've joined all three groups listed above, so I have ample opportunities for Mom's Night's Out, and other activities!

Cheers!

As far as selling your washer, dryer, couches, desk and other items, have you tried craigslist.com? I have bought a few things off that site and have had several friends who have sold many things on there. Several friends who have moved and sold all that they wanted to on there. I am not sure how you go about listing the items on there, but I am sure that the website give specific instrustions. It's like an online garage sale. You post something on there and people respond and buy. You can upload a picture of the item (if you want), a short description and then potential buyers can contact you via phone or email. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hi M.,
I own my kid shuttle, inc...If you are interested, please check out my website - www.mykidshuttle.com. I don't have a shuttle running in that area right now, but have been receiving lots of phone calls so am hoping to have a shuttle functioning there in mid September. Welcome to the area! I sold a lot of items my kids had outgrown on craigslist - usually within 2 days. GOOD LUCK

Hi M.,
My name is A. and I just moved to Flower Mound as well. We are from New Orleans. My husband and I are both born and raised in New Orleans and our families are there. We know very few people here right now. Moving is horrible! Our 5 year old daughter goes to Donald Elem. and we live in Forestwood Estates. I am a SAHM with alot of time on my hands. A night out would be fun! If you get a group going let me know. My email is ____@____.com. I hope you find a carpool and good luck with everything.

Can't help with the carpooling but M.---O-H!!! (I'm sure you are saying I-O, right?!) I graduated from Ohio State in '93. I also live in Flower Mound and have a 6 yr old daughter in first grade, she goes to Coram Deo. My younger son did go to Lamb of God (we are members) but then he switched to a different pre-school sooo anyway, we have a bunch in common and I'd love to meet up for a maragarhetta or glass of wine (not too crazy though, I'm nursing :) ).
In regards to your stuff, I'd try an ad in the local paper or mayber a dreaded garage sale?
Back to the Buckeyes, are you a member of the alum group? When did you graduate? What part of Ohio are you from? I'm from outside Cleveland (so GO BROWNS--I belong to the Browns Backers). If you want details on either group, drop me a line.
Good to see a fellow Buckeye!

Hey M. - you've received some good advice for selling and carpooling - but just wanted to say welcome to Texas & let you know that I have a small group of women that get together every once in awhile for mom's night out - lately we've been doing it at Life's A Beach in Highland Village (on FM407) after work hours so all mommies can come and bring their kids. If you haven't been to Life's a Beach yet - the outdoor patio is huge and then there is a gigantic sand area (think like volleyball) and they provide shovels and pails, so you just sit out on the patio drinking & snacking while all the kids play together. It's a great restaurant, and we've found it's a great Mom's meetup place because you can bring the kids (I know on one hand it defeats the purpose of MNO, but it takes all stress away about sitters, etc. and we like our kids playing with each other in a non-tech, laid back manner. It makes us feel vacation-y)

I am getting ready to send out my next email to the girls about getting together in September. There aren't many of us (8?)- we all used to be on the same parent committee and now we're scattered but like to get together for drinks and gossip. We're a good mix & I think we all live in Flower Mound or Lewisville, and we all obviously have kids - they range from newborn to about 10. We've been talking about becoming more structured and finding more moms to be a part of our little core group and then just planning a recurring monthly gig so that we can all know "first Tuesday of month is Life's a Beach" or whatever.

So consider yourself invited if you'd like, just PM me.

Talk with you soon - S.

List your stuff in Craigslist.com
If you are free during the day can go once a month to New Comers and they usually have a flyer at the Chamber of Commerce. I lived in Double Oak and was very involved. From that group( many or empty nesters) they do trips, bunco, bird watching, women's night out etc and it is so much fun. You also car pool to different places and that is the way I learned to get around. G. W
