Recall on Infant Sleep Positioners ??

Is there really a recall on ALL infant sleep positioners? I have heard a little bit about it, but not much. I just purchased one for a friend who is having a baby and I would hate to give it to her if it's dangerous. What have you guys heard about it?? Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Thank you all for your comments. I will be returning the sleep positioner today! :)

Personally, I have always thought they were dangerous. The idea that a baby cannot or does not move until they are several months old is totally wrong. All of my kids were moving in some way or other at about a month old. They just need to move a little bit to be against the side of the positioner which can cause suffocation.

Try checking this site on recalls:

Specific positioners made by Mothercare have been recalled from shelves, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the FDA have issued a warning on ALL infant sleep positioners and recommended immediate discontinuation of use based on several suffocation deaths in infants 0-4 months of age. I would return your sleep positioner and buy your friend something else instead.

They are not recalled YET. The FDA has stated that they are dangerous, and are asking all manufacturers to pull them from the shelves. they have just issued a warning right NOW, but have stated to EXPECT a recall on them.

I would return it and get something else for your friend. I will say if a friend bought me something that was in the news with talk of a recall, I would be upset about it. i would really wonder what that person was thinking to give me something that is deemed dangerous.

I used one for about one night...when I went in to check on my baby she had slipped down and her head was right inside the foam, they are dangerous - and really unessecary - I really think all this furor over sleep positions will come full circle - babies will naturally move in their sleep they do not need to be strapped down or held in a "position"
I think buy her something else just in case
