Real Life Results of "Your Baby Can Read"

I don't know much about this program, but it sounds like a scam to appeal to parents who want to impress other parents that their baby can "read." A toddler can memorize the sequence in a book after hearing it being read over and over but they are not reading. Remember, reading involves recognizing and sounding out new words along with comprehension of what is being read. I would be skeptical if I were you and find out exactly what it is they are promising and how they explain that kids this young can actually read. Is it really "reading?" Why would you want a baby to read anyway? If you work with them at home and read to them a lot, then chances are they will read when they are ready anyway. Pushing it too early can also stifle their love for reading later on. I say just concentrate on the joy of reading books now.

My daughter had used a similar program for her son, to teach him to read. He would recognize words on flash cards also. He could read books by the time he was 3. When he started school, his teacher was so surprised that he was reading papers on her desk. She was very impressed. He was very advanced in reading, arithmetic, and other skills but she felt he was too emotionally immature. He is now 7, and will be 8 in February. He is still very advanced in his school work, and loves school. Good luck with whatever you decide.

My husband ordered it and we received it last summer. My son was not yet two at the time. He absolutely loved the videos! We watch it with him and encourage him to "touch your head" or "clap your hands" along with the kids on screen. He started recognizing words about two weeks later.
I must admit, I was very skeptical myself. I thought my husband was a bit taken in to order the DVDs. But they are awesome!
Because they are expensive, and he is a full-time student, and there are many other people on campus, we let others use the DVDs that my son is not using at the time. It saves them some money and they are all seeing the benefits, too.

I ordered this program last week online and anxious for it to arrive. My friend swears by it, but who knows....it was an inpulse buy and I admit I didn't ask around to other moms. I would be interested in knowing feedback from other moms.

I have never heard of these videos, but I am a SAHM, and my 4 year old can read very well, and my 3 yo is starting to learn how to also. I just taught them thier letters arround 18m, then when they had those down added the sound that the letters make. My 3 yo (just turned 3) knows all the letters and the sounds they make (even vowels and second letter sounds). My 4 year old looks at the word "know" and can say-the K is silent in that word-it says "no". She read me Are You My Mother? last night before bed. The cost of my program-free!! Just time!!! I do read to my kids constantly!! We read at least 30 min every day.

Reading to your kids is better. We would read to our oldest and read short books and followed along with our finger. Granted she would have the books memorized but that helped her in recognizing short words later. Doctor Suess books are great. She was in kindergarte reading at a 2nd grade level and had the comprehension to go with it. We didn't read as much with our youngest and she is not as strong of a reader. Good luck and God Bless.

My duaghter is 22 months old and my Mother In Law bought it for us because she thinks my daughter is "behind" and doesn't think I am a good mother. I have not tried it yet to be honest with you. I didn't know when would be a good time to start it.
