Razer Burn??

Hey moms, I'm not sure what my problem is, but I'm hopeing someone can help. I seem to get razer burn a lot. I have tried different razers and different shaving creams, and it honestly seems that daisy razers and natural soaps work better than anything, but about every two or three shaves and my legs look horrible! I only use my razers two or three times and then use a new one. The razers that have three blades are the worse, they break my legs out really bad. Is it the razer, the shaving lotion, or do you think I just have very sensitive skin? I don't want to use anything like Nair or anything with chemicals, and I can't afford waxing, so does anyone else have this problem? What have you found to work for you? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much moms for your advice! I have started shaving without any creams or soaps and I also shave with my legs still under the water. Believe it or not, I think this is helping. I do plan on buying and epilady when I have the money. Any body else had good success with the epilady?

If you prefer shaving to anything else (nair, epilator, waxing) I would suggest exfoliating prior to shaving. Several companies have stuff created just for leg shaving and the binkini area. Also what has worked for me at times has been to use men's shaving cream. I also like Skinitimate shaving cream. For me the shaving gels cause me to break out in more bumps. For you maybe gels would work better than creams.

I have a solution for you. No more razor burn. Go to www.epilady.com I have been using this for many years now and I only have to do it every six to eight weeks. Over a period of time it pulls the hair out and lessons the hair where now I have hardly any. I just bought a new one called the Epilady Pocket model. Works for bikini line also. Now I have nothing to do with the company just know it works for me and if you use it after a shower it is painless.

Have you tried switching to a women's electric razor? you can usually get a decent one for about $30. They do a good job and get almost as close as a regular razor. I usually use a regular razor, but have an electric on standby in case I just need a quick shave without a shower. I think mine is a Remington smooth and silky - you can look on Amazon and see the reviews on various ones.

I don't have an answer for you, but I am glad to see someone else who has found some success with the Daisy razor. That is all I've been able to use for years too. I still get bad razor burn every couple shaves though.

Using my husband's razors (with 4 blades) or even other disposable razors makes things worse. The expensive razors with the giant block of moisturizer around them doesn't help either. Electric ones just leave way too much stubble (I have dark, course hair.)

I've was told you can use diaper rash cream on the bikini line right after shaving to help with that area and I have used it and it seems to help a little. It would be expensive (and unattractive) to use it all over my legs though.

I think it is most likely that you are very sensative. I have the same problem with my under arms. Is your hair very coarse? I find it better when the razor isnt so sharp myself. You may try a razor bump product. You can usually find them by the waxes and creams. Bikini Zone make a razor bump treatment and it works very well. Also, only shave after a hot shower and put condition on your legs. Good luck.

I know a trick that a girlfriend told me about to help with the burn .... and trust me it works! ...... deodorant! Ya I know it seems silly to put it on your legs but trust me it stops the itch and burn right away ..... although not sure how to prevent it. Good luck.

Hi, i had the same problem, the only thing that helped me was laser hair removal. It is a little expensive, but worth! Good luck.

I don't know if it would help or not, but, like one of the other posters, I don't use shaving cream of any kind. Just a nice clean blade. I usually use a triple bladed one with a pivot head. I've never really used shaving cream, and I get nice smooth shaves and no irritation (unless I accidently shave REALLY close and almost knick myself, LOL). It saves $$ that way too. I just wait until I have shampooed and have put the conditioner in my hair and then shave while my hair conditions. Then rinse the conditioner from my head, and I'm done. I don't know if being in the shower a few minutes to let the water and soap/body wash soften up the hairs and open the pores does anything to help... but that's what I do and I've never had any problems.

Hi, T.. It sounds like you DO have very sensitive skin. I do, too. You might be pressing down too h*** o* the razor, especially if the triple-blade razors give you the most problems.

I use the Venus razor, and only the Venus razor for sensitive skin. It's got three blades, but it has a very nice conditioning strip which helps trememdously. Make sure you do not press too hard or shave too often. Try putting a good lotion on your legs in between shaves such as Aveno or another one with aloe, vitamin E, etc. That will heal the skin in between shaves and also help to minimize the problem.

I also suggest using that lotion that helps to minimize hair regrowth -- I forgot the name of it. I've been trying to find it myself. My legs are quite hairy, and I'd like to make shaving a little easier if I can.

If you have sensitive skin, waxing will hurt just as much, if not more, so I advise against it. My Venus razors give me usually at least 4-5 shaves on my legs, and then I use them for my armpits where I'm even more sensitive and can't use a very sharp razor at all.

I hope this is helpful and that the problem goes away completely.

Peace,
Syl

I have used Neosporin on my bikini line, which is very sensitive. I put it on after shaving and it prevents the razor burn/bumps. It has worked wonders, as I used to always get razor bumps after shaving.

Good luck!

Try shaving downwards, with the hair growth, not against (from knee towards ankle).

Have you tried Coochy? You can find it at the adult store. You can even use it as a conditioner for your hair. I use to get razor burn until one day my friend told me about it. It works wonders! It's made for sensitive skin and for shaving all areas of your body. Hope you find something that works!

Try shaving in a really steamy shower - it opens the pores and the whole process goes easier. I have done this since middle-school and have never used shaving cream (I do have sensitive skin). I slather on some Aveeno lotion after the shower and it works great. I do use Venus razors and recommend them. The refills can be pricey, but its worth its weight in gold when you need a good shave.

Hope this helps - good luck.
