Rash....normal Or Not?

My 5 week old has a rash on his back, it is reddish and little tiny white pimply things, He sweats easily so maybe its some kind of a heat rash, also i just started him on formula (supplementing) but he had it before that, so im not sure if that is a sign of allergy. He has baby acne all over his face too, so im wondering if that is just the same thing on his back? P.S. im not eating anything crazy in fear of hurting his tummy while breastfeeding.

Hello C.,

Congratulations on your new baby!! It just gets better and better!

I am not sure about the rash -- it could be an allergic reaction to non-mother's milk. You may want to check with your doctor.

I do have a question: were you told to supplement for some reason? All a baby needs is his mother's milk. Does someone think you are under-producing (a rare thing, and usually not correctly identified)

If this is because he was not gaining weight fast enough during the first few weeks, you may want to look up a lactation consultant in your area. Your milk is waaay the best way to go, for so many reasons: baby's health, convenience, expense...

lots of love,

It does indeed sound like "baby acne". Just be sure to keep his skin as clean/dry as possible in that area, and keep an eye on it. If it gets worse or it concerns you for any reason at some point, then call your pediatrician for peace at mind. But I think it will probably go away on its own :)

i would put a acall into the ped, but would not worry-HIVES are usually a sign of allergy-DON'T HESITATE call the ped-that is what they r there for. L.:)

my nephews get that. their dr said it was the hair folical getting irritated. just try to keep him cool and lightly dressed when going places. at home just let him be in a diaper so his skin can air.

I would call the babies doctor and ask them. Just to be sure.
