This rash could be different from what he has had before. It actually sounds like a virus my 15 month old had last month. It started on her face then moved to her neck then back, stomach, legs and arms. She didn't act like it bothered her much. I called her doc and they told me that it sounded like a virus and that it should clear up shortly. Within a few days it was gone. But several of my friends children have had the same rash so I was pretty certain it was just a virus. The doc told me not to be cooncerened and it didn't need to be treated unless her fever reached 102 and it never did. Good luck and it is probably nothing serious.

i didnt but my friends daughter did and the doctors found that she had hives and is on zertec, without it she breaks out. it could also be allegic reaction to something too.have you changed any thing you use to wash your clothes, or in the babys diet. that could be allergy. sorry if spelled something wrong. i would take him to the doctor. before i tried a lot of stuff on him.

You might want to check into the possibility of allergies. Creams and stuff will work for a while sometimes, but they only treat the symptoms and not the cause. Trying to figure out allergies can be a horrible pain, but the fact that so much time has passed (a year) and there are still issues (because it came back and the original treatment isn't working) I would think checking on allergies might be worthwhile. It can be as simple as noting how each day goes and what he eats and is exposed to and noting how the rash looks each day and doing it for about a week or two to see if there are any patterns, or as complicated as visiting an allergist and having them do pinprick tests, blood work, etc. GOOD LUCK! I hope you get it figured out.

Okay I just read the other posts and if this is Eczema, we have had to deal with that. My 4 year old has the bumps all over his body (stomach, arms, back and some on his legs). Our pediatrician told us to wash with Dove soap because it is the most moisturizing and to by Cetaphil Cream (not lotion) on him. When I apply the Cetaphil everyday, it helps with the bumps and they are not as bad. However, I don't think this will work if it is the inflamed irritated eczema which I myself have had where the skin is dry and itchy and red and peeling, for that I put neosporin on it to help heal it and then try to be better about keeping that are well moisturized.

I'm not sure whom your pediatrician is, but in case you do not use him wanted to mention Dr Horowitz at Rainbow Peds.
This sounds like something you need to ask a doctor about, especially since it is reacurring. It could be something else...like lupus. I'm not sure if kiddos get that, but a rash on the face is one of the first signs.
I hope that helps!

My son has had this same problem since he turned 1 yr, and the doctor says he has eczema. The hydrocortizone cream works for outbreaks, but I have to take special care not to wash any of bedding, clothes, etc in detergents with fragrance to avoid the outbreaks from the beginning. Even those detergents that claim they are just for babies and are gentle contain fragrances that break him out. Also, you can just forget using clorox or anything containing bleach. And, be careful with lotions, shampoos, and soaps containing ANY type of fragrance (we do not use soap at all). Certain foods break out my son with eczema too... like eggs. Try switching your detergent to a "free and clear" type, eliminate bleach, change soaps to fragrance free, and see if you can figure out if it might be a food allergy that causes the outbreaks. When it gets really bad, put some baking soda in a lukewarm bathtub and let him soak. This works better than anything you can buy. This sounds like a lot to have to consider, but welcome to the world of the baby with sensitive skin ... :)

I would strongly suggest seeing a dermatologist. They will be most equipped to make a diagnosis, more so than a pediatrician. You can also see if it is allergy related and ask your pediatrician for the dosing for benadryl for your 2 year old. Good luck, I am sure that this is stressful.

Go to a DERMATOLOGIST! This doctor specializes in skin disorders and only heed the advice of a professional doctor. I wouldn't recommend putting any cream near the eye especially a steroid cream!
Please call a Dermatologist or get a referral from your family doctor. This could be anything, even a virus.
Sounds like Eczema (we have that in this family with all three children) and the Dermatologist has prescribed special creams and soap for hair and skin (some over the counter!) to use for bath-time.
Also nothing with scent or color in laundry detergent or dryer sheets that come in contact with skin, like even the sheets.

I too just read the responses and I ditto Dawn completely.
It's just *find out what it is first* and then do like we say...it's all about change at this point. Eczema is very uncomfortable and the children cannot tell us why they are fussy, it's all over their little bodies! But there is something else my one son has that the Dr. (again, derma..) said is life long skin condition that he will have (my side of the family) I cannot remember the spelling but it's all about dry sensitive skin (I have it mostly on the back of my arms, if you have it then you know what I'm talking about).
***We use Cerave (cleanser, and then body lotion, and then heavy cream for outbreaks) if anyone else is interested. Over the counter, literally, from the pharmacy, you rarely will see it on open shelves but you don't need a prescription.

My boys have eczema also. When ever they get sick they break out the worst. It is a bumpy rash that is flesh tone or slightly red in color. Try aquaphor for the rash, hydrocortisone for the itchiness. it does flare up when they have colds or when the weather changes to cooler air. good luck.

Are the bumps raised but skin tone, not red? My son has a rash like this. It occurs mostly on cheeks and upper arms and thighs and shins. Dr at Concord Children's Clinic said there is nothing that can be done. It is some type of dermatitis and is not curable. It is not contagious, just a sensitive skin issue. She said to put some Unscented Oatmeal lotion on him and to use all unscented products.

You need to take him to a dermatologist. I have eczema and my regular doctor always tries to give me hydrocort or something over the counter, but that doesn't work for me. They think it does, but unless you have it, you have no idea how uncomfortable it can be. So I had to see a dermatologist for a prescription and it works great. He may have contact dermatitis or something like eczema. You should find out when you go see the specialist. Hope your baby gets better.
