Hi Moms,

I noticed a rash on my daughters stomach and back on Saturday. It seems to come and go because sometimes I really notice it and then other times I think it is gone. She has had no fever or any other symptoms. It doesn't itch or bother her. I hate to take her in to the doc and have her be around other sicknesses but I don't want her to have something and me not know. When should I call the doc? My husband says it could be a heat rash because she has been under lots of covers this weekend with it getting so cold at night. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks moms. I called the nurses line yesterday and she said that it sounded like contact dermetitis. I havent changed any products that I use on her but she did wear a shirt that was brand new before it got washed. Maybe that was it. Anyway, the nurse said if it was still there after 3 days to bring her in. Thanks again for the responses.

How old is she? It might be food related. My DD had this type of thing with strawberries and tomatoes when she was around 12 - 15 months but she's since outgrown it.

My daughter had strep before and the ONLY symptom she had was the rash - no sick symptoms, no fever, no nothing. I thought the doctor was kinda weird when he said he wanted to test her for it, but sure enough it came back positive! Look for spots in the back of her mouth with a flashlight. How long has she had it? Any rash that last more than one day should be looked at. Heat rash doesn't usually last more than one day....

Could be a heat rash or the remains of a virus she did have. Always good to have rashes checked out by a dr. or even just call them to have it checked out.

I would have her tested for strep. That will leave a rash and sometimes no other symptoms. I know it's odd, but it's happened in our house, too. Good luck!

My guess was to say heat rash too. If it doesnt seem to be bothering her and you said that there is no fever or other symptoms to have you believe that it could be anything else I would let it be for a few more days and if it isnt gone by then I might venture off to the Dr.
Good Luck

Don't waste your money running to the doctor for everything thing. Try a little hydrocordizone cream on one area if it goes away, put on all areas. Or try a little baby powder.

ummm. after my son had Meningitis, I never mess around when I see a rash (esp on the stomach and back) not to scare you of course.. and too, with Meningitis, it's accompanied with a major headache.. If me, I would probably take my child to the doc.. I assume by virtue of your posting your question on here you are nervous about this and therefore, to ease your mind.. why not take her in...

good luck

What's the weather like? Have you switched soaps or laundry detergent? Has she had any new foods? Is there a rash behind her ears? Does Benadryl or corn starch powder make it better? Has she been on any new medication?

Could be Scarlett Fever, just the rash no strp signs yet, but those signs can show up later. I'd take her in if she still has the rash and you've negated new soaps, new sheets theories.

Doubt it's a heat rash. It hasn't been hot and if she was warm under the covers then she would have kicked them off.
Are her cheeks red? Might be Fifths Disease which is a relative of measles. That rash will come and go, her cheeks will be red like she's sunburned and her joints might ache. Not really any cure for it but you would need to keep her away from anyone pregnant in their first trimester.
Considering the possibilities I would call the doctor and see what he says.
